Building Germany's Holocaust Memorial
The Holocaust memorial in Germany is a sculpture that was erected in Berlin. It occupies an area equal to the size of a soccer field and has 2711 concrete stele. The steles have varying heights and swings constantly from left to right. The field is accessed through narrow walkways that are barely two fits and can only fit one person at a time. The size of this monument is five and a half acres with four access points. This Holocaust memorial is exclusive for the Jews who were massacred in Europe and it was initiated by some concerned German nationals with the leadership of Lea Rosh in 1988. Its purpose was to uncover the forgotten dark side of the German’s past.
ORT is an organization free from government interference that is dedicated to enhance the progression of Jewish people through education and training. Inclusion of ORT in Holocaust memorial has various advantages such as creation of awareness amongst Jews through educating them on issues relating to their past. This awareness has made them to recognize the importance of the memorial to their existence. Moreover, ORT is advantageous in the sense that it is engaged in projects that enhance unity amongst the Jewish fraternity. This helps bring together the Jews to experience their past, which is the main function of the memorial. However, the inclusion of ORT brings about some other projects that do not portray the intended mission of the memorial. This alters the meaning of the memorial’s existence thus barring some Jews from accessing it.
The memorial museum in Washington was put in place to reserve memorials of the victims of Nazi regime experienced in Germany during the 2nd World War. On the contrary, there is no national memorial established to reserve the Indians who died during the famous slavery and genocide. An attempt to introduce one has been faced by varied reactions with most of the people opposing the idea strongly.
