1. FACILITY CHARACTERIZATION:
My home is located in Ann harbor, Michigan. At my house I live with my two parents and a nephew. The house is located next to a highway and is therefore easily accessible. My hometown has garage where I store various house hold machinery such as lawnmowers and motor vehicles. The house has an elaborate alarm system, which is highly sensitive to smoke, temperature difference, and unauthorized entry into the house interior. My hometown also has a tornado siren that goes off in the case of strong winds.
2. THREAT/HAZARD ANALYSIS:
Some of the potential threats that face my home include hurricanes, floods and wildfires. This is because; my house is located adjacent to a farm where different land management practices like burning are employed. Terrorist actions have also been reported within my neighborhood in recent years. There have been incidences of gun shooting and cases of suicide.
3. CONSEQUENCE ANALYSIS:
If there was harm on my assets at my home, it would have dire consequences to my financial income. First of all, I use my vehicle to get to work on a daily basis. This would mean that my source of income would be affected. In addition, I earn extra funds mowing lawns across my neighborhood. This would mean that I would lose the extra jobs that I use to earn extra income. 4. SYSTEM EFFECTIVENESS ASSESSMENT
I consider my home as being adequately protected. Smoke detectors and house alarms are tested on a monthly basis to make sure that they are in good shape. In addition, the fire department within my home district carries out different maintenance activities to make sure that the city is adequately protected from hurricanes and floods.5. RISK ESTIMATION:
In terms of hazards, I would like fire as being the major hazard in my house. This is because there are different house hold chores that involve the use of fires. These include activities such as cooking. In addition the uses of electricity in various house appliances make house fires a more likely hazard (Lindell et al, 2007, p. 61). Hurricanes and floods are the other risk factors. They are not a great risk because they can be avoided in some cases before they cause harm.6. RISK REDUCTION STRATEGIES:
In order to avoid optimal loses, my house is insured against fire and hurricanes. This means that I would recover my assets in the case of a disaster. In addition, my motor vehicles and lawn mowers have total insurance coverage, which makes sure that my finances are not adversely affected.
Question 2 Business perspective
The different concerns for businesses include fires and climatic hazards such as hurricane and floods. However, theft is another major risk that can affect the resilience of a given business unit. Some of the recovery preparedness that are necessary in making sure that different businesses are safe would include thorough audit of sales and stock(Waugh,2000, p.31). In addition, business stocks have to be insured. Insurance should not only be on the business stocks but also involve employees. According to National Infrastructure Protection Plan authored by the US department of Homeland Security, employees should be holders of health insurances so as to make sure that they are protected from hazards that might be subjected to them in the business environment.
