The homeless population is considerably growing across the globe due to a number of social problems within the different societal backgrounds. In particular, the homeless is a group of individuals that does not have basic shelter or a place to call home. In actual sense, they do not have a permanent home. The people in many instances tend to prejudge and misunderstand the needs of the homeless. In many instances, the people think that the major problem facing the homeless is lack of basic needs like for example clothing, shelter, and food (Daly 69).
In addition, while these are possible to categorize as perceived needs, the actual needs of this individual are very different from the perceived ones. In particular, the practical needs of these individuals are sociological and psychological needs (Daly 72). The homeless suffer psychological needs as the public does not give them any attention and in addition, they end up perceiving themselves as useless. The actual need of these individuals is attention and care from the public.
Noteworthy is that understanding the accurate needs of a population is crucial in the formulation of a program plan. In particular, this is because different people have differing needs and it will be necessary to know the needs of each one of them for the creation of an accurate program. A well-drafted program hypothesis and plan need relevant information concerning the necessity of all individuals for the preparation of an inclusive budget.
Finally, the process of gathering information concerning the homeless in a community is diverse and reliable. The needs of the homeless are particularly confusing to understand especially given that the perceived needs differ from the actual requirements of these individuals. The most common methods usually employed in gathering information on the needs of the homeless are filling a questionnaire and conducting interviews. The interviews are conducted through the intervention of the relevant authorities and bodies that have information concerning the homeless. The relevant and close individuals to the homeless do on the other hand the filling of the questionnaire to identify the actual need accurately.
