The Social Issue: Homelessness.
Who is affected by this issue? How large is it? How many people does it affect?
Homelessness affects both adults and their families. In the United States with the latest survey indicates 71 percent of the homeless population has lived in San Francisco Areas before losing their homes
What indicates that this is a problem? Is there evidence?
Homelessness has become among the top issues affecting both adults and children in our society with latest official count conducted in 2015 placing the adult homeless population to more than 7000 (Kilgore 594).
Explain the reasons you identified this particular problem?
This problem is highly pressing given that an increase in homelessness leads to increase in other social problems such as diseases.
Does this problem exist within the USF community? Does it affect the USF community?
The University of San Francisco is not left out in the issue of lack of shelter. Some students lack the means to live within the institution premises due to the high housing prices and are forced to look for cheaper tents on the streets. Homelessness is a consequence of poverty, and thus most residence at USF is not able to afford to educate their children.
What do you think needs to be done about this problem?
The federal government should consider spending more money to benefit the poor and avail more public land for the construction of affordable houses to shelter those living in the streets.
