Should There be Introduced a Ban on Smoking?
Thesis: The ban on smoking should be introduced as this dangerous issue affects public health.
I. Americans today tend to believe that a ban on smoking should be introduced in all enclosed public spaces, cafes, bars and restaurants as this major issue has proved to cause a number of different illnesses such as heart disease and lung cancer.
A. THE ABSOLUTE BAN ON SMOKING BY PEOPLE WHO PATRONISE SOCIAL VENUES MAY SERVE TO INTERRUPT OR PREVENT THE SMOKING HABIT. 1.According to Trotter et.al. the situational influence on young people may have a better effect if they are not addicted to tobacco.
2. In other words, the earlier they realise that it is harmful to their health the better it is for them (Trotter et.al.,300).
3.Furthermore,the risks are not restricted to smokers themselves.
B. Each individual should realise that this dangerous habit may influence the individual’s health as well as other people who are surrounded by a smoker .
1.For example, “thirdhand smoke” or “passive smoking” , the process when you inhale another person’s tobacco smoke is almost equally dangerous as smoking (Gould, A 100).
2. In addition, smoking anywhere where are pregnant women or little children present.
3. This dangerous issue may be considered as extremely harmful to their future development as well as health.
II. The main argument in support of banning smoking is that non-smokers usually find the smoke of tobacco quite bothersome when they are consuming the food (Borland et al.,180) . A. Many countries approve smoking bans and the owners of cafés are not opposed to it.
1. As they also consider the following issue to be bad for running a business.
2.Mainly it is because many people do not like the smell of the tobacco or menthol, which has harmful cessation effect.
3. They prefer visiting and spending time at cafes which forbid to smoke indoors(Levy et al., 1237).
B. Moreover, this tendency has also spread among the employers.
1. They forbid to their employees to smoke during the work time.
2.They think it is right to prolong the deсline in tobacco consumption (Farrelly et al., 272).
3.It seems to be a move in the right direction as it may help to reduce the addiction among teenagers and adults.
In conclusion, the following regulation is quite beneficial to society, and any measure or bans to reduce smoking addiction must be regarded as a solution and a positive step. This is not a minor problem, it must be solved as quickly as possible in order to extend even more places that are opened to the public.
