A hotel is a place where people usually stay either to attend a business meeting/conference in a different city or just to spend some time in new surroundings. On the contrary, a resort is a place that is set up in natural surroundings that provides rooms, entertainment and other facilities of relaxation. As both places are set up in different backgrounds, managing them is also different.
- Hotel Management Practices
In earlier times, the hotels required their managers to be attentive towards the internal operations of the place. However, difficult business conditions of the contemporary era require the hotel industry to transform its management practices (Vrdoljak and Bukvic). The new century requires the hotel managers to work with a more external-oriented focus. It is an imperative business method to employ transformational management as it is one of the most successful and effective way to manage a hotel. The most important issue in the hotel management is the development of a strategy as it decides the success or failure of the hotel. As there is a rapid and continuous change in the global hotel industry, it is therefore significant for the hotel managers to adapt accordingly. Managers today understand this necessity and this is the reason why they constantly improve and make effective use of the employees by employing practices of transformational leadership (Vrdoljak and Bukvic).
Hotel managers are also concerned about the quality of service as it has become a major challenge. The deliverance of quality of service is nowadays an obligation for achieving triumph in the rising, zealously viable and international hospitality markets (Vrdoljak and Bukvic).
- Resort Management Practices
The pace of change has been accelerated due to globalization and the resort industry is not left behind. This is the reason why resort management in today’s contemporary era also requires swift responses and the competence to modify the needed strategies and tactics. For the maintenance of a successful resort, the availability of well-trained managers is indispensable. It is because only the knowledgeable and experienced supervisors can maintain and manage a resort. It is also important for the managers to have know-how of marketing and publicity, operations, inventory management, reimbursement and workforce development, imaginative skills, and ability to develop sales and public relations ("How to Manage and Maintain a Resort”). The main industrial challenge is how it can be made more democratic. Only a limited number of people are served by resorts. It is not enough to just address the question of growth and being geared up to acknowledge the challenges. It is exceedingly important for the resort industry today to bring about transformation swiftly so that positive shifts can be generated for benefitting humanity in general ("How to Manage and Maintain a Resort”). To cut a long story short, it is imperative to maintain and manage a resort with enough knowledge of the modern requirements. With qualified managers, the resort industry can thrive and run well. A competent team that possesses the best knowledge and creative skills can solve all the problems being faced by the resort industry today. A successful business can only be built if the best people are employed possessing best skills ("How to Manage and Maintain a Resort”).
Both hotel and resort serve the same purpose. However, their management criteria is what makes them successful and attractive.
