Abstract
Environment damage is caused by a number of factors and the main factor is the over-population and human greed. As population increases the demand for natural resources grows, and to fulfill the desires of each individual the organizations and industries create products that directly impact the environment. The environmental modifications caused by the humans have led to the global species annihilation. The global ecosystems are currently diversified and the demand and supply of chief productions such as the required nutrients have been greatly impacted by humans. This paper explains the damage caused by the humans to the environment and the measures that can be taken to protect the environment.
Keywords: environment, ecosystem, humans, population, species.
There have been drastic changes in the past few decades in the environment because of the humans and most of the damage can be related to the desires of the human beings. The geographic area has been reducing as people build cities and buildings by cutting down the trees, setting up industries and polluting the air and water. Human connection with the nature has decreased and the new technology has resulted in inevitable impact on the environment. Human has impacted the environment in almost all the aspects such as irrigation, agriculture, fishing, electricity generation, coal mining, population, nuclear technology and consumption of meat products to name a few.
A few measures that can be taken to protect the environment are to recycle the products where the consumption ratio is higher, save water, plant more trees and by joining an organization that works towards a greener environment. Educating people on the ill-effects of damage caused by humans to the environment can create awareness to protect the environment. Considering how important nature is to human survival, protecting it is pretty much the same thing as safeguarding the future of people everywhere (Britannica Educational Publishing, 2011). The best measure to protect the environment is to follow the three R’s: Recycle, Reuse and Reduce. Parents must be a role model and lead by example in teaching their children about the small changes that can impact in a huge way to the environment.
Some other ways humans can contribute to protect the environment are to protect natural water resources from pollution and planting greenery that can help the ground to immerse rain water that can be used for safe drinking and harvesting. Conserving wildlife is important as every living thing keeps the planet active. A conservation program also incorporates effective measures so that all natural resources are managed in the best interest of everyone (BEP, 2011).
