The Name of the Class
How do languages die and is this inevitable?
In ancient times each nationality had their own language but then people needed to use a one state language. Many languages of small ethnic groups began to die. Language death is the result of the language shift.
The reason for the death of national languages implies globalization, the disappearance of national characteristics and traditions and characteristic differences in lifestyle. People do not live in an isolated group so they have to communicate with each other on some common language. D.Crystal identified areas where local languages were died. These are the areas with rich linguistic diversity, but with a high risk of language extinction. It happened due to the relatively small number of mechanisms that could help in the preservation of the language. Economic reasons have led to the fact that communication between people has become easier to do on a common language. The use of different languages complicate international communication. Sometimes the cause of the disappearance of a language was not only assimilation. It also implied the physical disappearance of small nationalities were not able to adapt to modern conditions of life.
D.Crystal also pointed out the priority of the national language and the national character in the definition of national borders. Author showed the importance of language in the fight for the preservation of cultural identity. Due to the increasing interest in linguistic diversity languages to become possible to create new languages. One example can be Hebrew. A rapid rebirth of the Hebrew language began at the end of the XIX century. Hebrew language from the dead began to turn into a modern language. Now this language meets the needs of a broad language of everyday life. Hebrew perhaps the most decisive factor in the Jewish national revival. Academy of the Hebrew Language founded in 1953 complements and enriches the updated Hebrew. They developed scientific terminology and solves the problem of standardization of the literary language. Ability to save languages has increased dramatically with the advent of the state language programs. It proposed the possibilities of language learning at the college level. Also were created academic centers devoted to the study of endangered languages. In an open global language system, it is important to find a way to overcome language and cultural barriers.
The way to solve the problem of the contradiction between the need for a world language of communication and preservation of ethno-cultural identity lies in the creation of multiple individual identities. They should be based on multilingual education because the poly-cultural globalization goes through targeted language policy. When children are no longer taught their native language, it goes into a stage of dying, but this process is reversible. Moreover, many young people today demonstrate their desire to know the historical background and the language spoken by their parents. Mass individual multilingualism is not enough to solve the problem of overcoming language and cultural barriers. In the era of globalization is necessary to include a worldwide communication language in the individual linguistic collection.
