I highly believe that for an intelligent human being to give a clear reason for what is right she or he must represent a sincere attempt to work out an appropriate thing for the right purpose. However, I totally disagree with the top-down approach to the ethical decision making where it states that to decide on what is right for a particular situation, a person have to refer to the moral theory and the final course of action must be inferred from the theory. For instance, an individual may not be able to make his or her final decision because if the theory recommends a particular decision she or he must adhere to it, resulting in infringement of human rights. Also, in the case of the bottom-up approach I comply to disagree with the entire theory as its reason are majorly based on the comparisons of the present cases to the previous ones, thus, it is inconvenient.
Additionally, I also disagree with the most criticisms of utilitarianism, for example, the most popular utilitarian criticism on the measurability of happiness where it implies that happiness cannot be measured. However, if happiness cannot be measured, then words such as happier or happiest could have never existed. On the other hand, I come to an agreement with the utilitarianism approach as it majorly emphasizes on the reason of morality as a way of making life better through the reduction of bad things in the world with more focus on the increase of good things such as happiness and pleasure. Hence, utilitarianism is the best and accurate moral and ethical theory to apply in the decision making of what ought to be right. Lastly, I also come to comply with the non-consequentialist theory as it gives a liberal approach to human reasonability, through moral ethics, divine command ethics, duty and rights approach. Hence, I agree that all the ethical analysis theories or methods have their significance thus; an individual must involve deep and pure thoughts in determining what is right.
