Admission Essay
I am genuinely excited to be applying to your university and hope that you will consider me favorably for admission. Overall, I would describe myself as an excellent student and have a good relationship with my teachers and peers. I have a strong aptitude for business this is what I am hoping to study as an undergraduate.
I moved to America from Latvia when I was 11 because my family was hoping for a better life than was possible there at that time. It was very difficult for me to adjust to a different culture and education system, especially because I did not even speak any English when I arrived here. Because of this I had to learn to work harder than many others to get A’s and B’s, and this experience has left me with a strong ability and persistence to overcome any difficulties or obstacles. Because of it, I am very determined and hardworking, and I now feel that there is nothing that seems impossible to me. It has caused me to be driven to achieve the best and not to settle for anything less, but then I was left with no choice except to overcome these disabilities or let them overcome me. It has also given me a strong social conscience and a desire to help others in the community with problems and disadvantages in life. Now I am a senior at Lindenhurst High School, Class of 2013, and I can look back with a great feeling of accomplishment at having made that difficult transition.
In my extracurricular activities, I have spent several years on the volleyball team and am now the senior varsity captain. Our team was that 2011-2012 Suffolk County Champions in Boys Volleyball, and then went on to become the 2012 Long Island Champions and the New York State Finalists. I have won the All League, All County, and 2nd Team All Long Island Volleyball Awards. I find that I really enjoy working in activities that are of service to the community, especially helping children, the disabled and the elderly. I now that there is a great deal of hunger, poverty and homelessness in this society, especially because of the current recession, and have seen this firsthand.
In summary, I think that that I have to academic skills as well as the determination and persistence to complete a four-year degree successfully. Thank you for considering my application and I hope you will make a favorable decision.
