Humans experience different kinds of moods depending on what is going on in their lives. People may be in a good mood when things in their day are going well. Individuals can be in a bad mood if their day is not going the way they would like it to. People may not be in either good or a bad mood, but may feel sad or depressed. There are many things that can affect how we feel and what type of mood our body and mind are experiencing. “Our brain relates different things to how our mood is” . If we are having a bad day and feel depressed the transmitters in the brain may enhance these types of feelings.
When people are exposed to a group of people who are happy and having fun it can uplift the mood to a higher level. People may not feel so down and upset when exposed to other individuals who are expressing joy and fun. Different factors relate to how our moods can change depending on the factors that are present in the surroundings. The purpose of this experiment will see if the music is another factor in determining changes in mood and behavior. If other scenarios can have an effect on how our moods change, then this study will show whether music has that same response.
The experiment will relate to peoples’ mood and if it can be affected by different types of music. The type of experiment that will be used to address this question will be based on music. The experiment will consist of different types of people in everyday society. The people will hear music and compare their mood from before and after the experiment.
On the first day, the random volunteers will listen to music that consists of a rock melody that is upbeat, and will express a happy pitch and tone. After sitting in the coffee house for at least an hour the volunteers will then fill out the same questionnaire. The second questionnaire will determine whether that type of music had an effect on each individual’s mood. This information will conclude if the mood of each individual had changed to a more positive outlook than before the experiment.
The second day of the experiment will consist of volunteer participants filling out the questionnaire regarding their mood when entering the coffee establishment. Those participants will then be listening to music that relates to hip-hop. This type of music is often played in dance clubs. The tone of the music has a good rhythm and beat that people normally choose to dance too with their friends. After the participants have listened to the music while spending time in the coffee shop, they then will fill out the questionnaire regarding the type of mood they are expressing.
On the third day of the experiment, the participants will fill out the survey regarding their mood, and spend time sitting in the coffee shop. The music that will be played will be based on alternative and classic music from the 1980’ and 1990’s. The music will be upbeat and relate to people who grew up to or related to that type of music. Once the participants have listened to the music they will fill out the survey and answer whether their mood had been affected. The comparison of each volunteers’ surveys will be analyzed and compared to the other two days of surveys. The outcome will tell whether music affects people’s mood and if different types of music have a greater effect on how our moods change with the sound of music.
