How to Stop School Violence
The recommendation for a selection criteria of the unit’s personnel will be as follows:
The individual should like and enjoy being around children.
The individual must want to and/or be willing to work in a school environment.
The individual must demonstrate a high standard of personal appearance and fitness.
The individual should be patient, flexible, and of even temperament.
He/she must be able to create and maintain a rapport with the particular administration and staff.
Must have the right demeanor and communication skills. Furthermore, the individual must be able to speak softly when needed, but also have a commanding presence.
Must know how to quickly diffuse an emergency situation through the proper de-escalation techniques.
The individual should be perceived as a good role model to the students as well as an effective leader.
The candidate must have experience as a road deputy or a patrol officer.
He/she should be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
He/she must be very knowledgeable about the school laws and policies as well as the juvenile laws in the country.
He/she must have very high integrity.
The responsibilities and the duties of the unit will be as follows:
Provide the appropriate policing and law enforcement services in the school environment. This will involve investigating any violent activities and enforcing the local and state laws effectively.
Work to control any juvenile delinquency cases that may trigger violence in the school through constant monitoring and having good relationships with the students.
They should work hand in hand with the guidance support staff to help prevent any occurrence of violence through guidance and counseling. . Through education, the unit will be in a position to stop violence in schools by changing the mindset of most students toward the minority populations (Juvonen, 2001).
Initiate the interaction with students and promote a positive leadership as a role model.
Help the school faculty or administration in formulate violence prevention programs to reduce possible violence in the school environment.
