Robert colescott
His works are satirical and vibrant and address the issues on the history and racial stereotypes keenly with much humor. His works represented the classical art from the western culture, but the phenomenal figures are portrayed to be black. This aspect of his works represents the multiplicity of the African-American experience. (Corcoran Gallery of Art and College of Art + Design, 2014)
Jacob Lawrence
He was a vigorous social realist whose works were composed of genre depictions of the everyday life in Harlem. Most of his series were devoted to African history, and he used water based media throughout his career. His style in the beginning and the end of his career was consistently composed of schematic designs, flat space and robust angular figures. A flashback on his works on the tombstones clearly explains his interest in daily life. (MoMA.org, 2014)
They both portray the figures as black and also have interest in life as can be seen in both their works;
Postmodern style building
The team Disney building whose architect was Arata Isozaki and located near Orlando, Florida made in the years 1989-1990 represents postmodern type architecture. The building is an amusement park; ornamental sundial built into the central cylinder and had creative commercial offices with hot and humid climate. The building qualifies to be a postmodern due to its new age artistic nature on an image based technology. It is also a ‘big idea’ representation of the postmodern age and captures the imagination of earlier generations. The authority, knowledge and expertise used in coming up with the building cannot be questioned on its postmodernity. (Greatbuildings.com, 2014)
Features of postmodern style African American artists
The postmodern artists are disillusioned with life as well as the existence of technology to effect changes that are beneficial to the society. They are able to manipulate the new technology making them able to short-cut the traditional processes of art making and in the end come up with new works of art.
They also focus on new educational priorities that make them pursue skills rather than knowledge for its own sake. They have a tendency to be less interested in traditions absorption and are instead focused on production mastery.
