Various types of rewards work for me to motivate me to achieve a particular set of goals and these could either be at an intrinsic or extrinsic level. The intrinsic types of rewards that work well for me include the enjoyment of performing the task, the lack of boredom as performing a given task will be engaging to the mind and also the feeling of accomplishment for fulfilling a certain task. At an extrinsic level these types of rewards may vary from pay for task completed, bonuses received afterward and the praise from mentors, colleagues or even family.
For a majority of people in my social circles, the same types of rewards work for them whether intrinsic or extrinsic with some of them considering the gain in free time for task completed and the gain in knowledge and advancements in skill as rewards too.
All these reward work in a way of putting an individual at a better financial position than he was previously for performing the task and can thus be able to afford better quality things in greater quantity. On the intrinsic side, there is the enjoyment and the personal fulfillment that comes afterward. All these types of rewards work for the sole reason of improving the quality of life whether in real terms or just perception wise as with the case of most intrinsic rewards that are subjective and relative depending on who is receiving the reward.
In a classroom setting there are various rewards and these include good grades, extra credit for tasks done above and beyond what was required by the instructors, there could be praises for tasks that are well done or even the increase in knowledge and enjoyment as most tasks selected by the students are based on their personal interests.
