Introduction
This movie is more of a successor of a movie called Twilight. The movie is the same as the mopey and bland. The set up of the movie is the United States, where the location shattered. The story depicts the twelve districts. The central government oppressed these districts. This Hollywood movie has tried to pursue the growing intensity of the materials used at the source.
The Hunger Games a movie that reflects the forces of equality in the field of gender and women. This movement of feminism started to cater for the current patriarchal conditions in the society.
The book shows the presence of twelve districts that were poor in terms of resource in his country called Panem. In these districts, the people were somehow depressed for example in a district where coal was mined. The individuals operated in poor working conditions making them unsatisfied with their jobs,
This film is derived from a book bearing the same name. This movie elaborates the importance the essence of language in literature. The book involves the use of masculine language making it favor men while at the same time. This makes it not easy to transfer information in between people in this community. The women experience hard time in expression because of the many languages written in a way to favor men because the language contains a lot themes and feelings that I cannot share with others. The novel portrays the men who are associated with power, ability ion hunting and so forth.
The film gave focus on the right of passage of the teenagers in each of the poor districts where this was through selection of youths to represent each district in the general and common ceremonies. The selected teen participates in various games and entertainment..This cultural event was historic in that it happens once in a while and it is prepared by the authorities of the twelve districts.
In the context of this movie, the religious issues were not given much emphasis. This makes the culture of the people incomplete because religion is an important aspect that contributes to the cultural issues and concerns of a given society. On the other hand, violence and brutality was a big theme in this movie since it prevailed throughout.
The structure of Panem
This region as depicted in the movie consists of the twelve districts and the Capitol, which is the home of the wealthy. The people [who lived in the twelve districts were poor people. This region called Panem is the setting and base where Hunger Games were produced and acted since it was a product of the people of this place.
The capitol is the chief city and where the government was based. This city is located on the Rocky Mountains in the north west of the country. The entertainment games involve the participation of twenty-four kids but only one emerges a winner. The citizens of live in Capitol are pre occupied by the modern trends of fashion, entertainment, food and other aspects like tattoos, which are associated with the modernity trends. Beauty issues are common in this city, for instance, plastic surgery and tattooing are common things and businesses in this city. The people of capitol speak differently from the rest of the population living in the twelve districts due to their distinct accent.( Collins,2008 pg.19)
Each of the twelve districts has a special role that it plays in this country, for instance, district one is actively engaged in the production of luxurious items and goods need e in the rich Capitol getting a guaranteed market of their produce. The twelve districts are therefore involved in different economic activities of which they specialize in order to boost their country. The stratification was based on economic activity of each district. The stratification is to some extent based on the income levels of individuals. This differs from most regions of the world where divisions are based on race and ethnicity.
Social Institutions:
Social institutions form major components of the social setup of the Panem country. The film begins with clear illustrations of close knit families that symbolizes the existence of the various strong forms of social institutions. The film starts by silently introducing the main characters who to a greater extend are link to some form of family set up. In addition to this, the characters are depicted having some form of social responsibility to their specific household units. The authority and responsibilities associated with family as a social institution are well manifested through the numerous economic activities in existence in the film such as hunting, trading, and farming. Another role of family as a social institution is the immeasurable emotional and social support accorded to the various characters by their intimate family members. Family as a social institution has been excellently developed in the film hunger games. Family members are seen dedicated in giving moral support to their loved ones participating in the horrific game throughout the film. The use of families as social institutions helps to a greater extends in developing numerous other themes revolving around the same.( Collins 2008,pg.34)
Government and its numerous forms of governance is another form of social institution well developed in the film. Actually, one can indisputably say that it is one of the major themes well developed in the film. The entire Panem country with it numerous districts exhibit unquestionable degrees of respect to their governing institution’s. it can be argued that no one in the entire district have power, will or authority to question the government.
Government rituals, practices, and traditions are strictly followed and adhered to the latter. No matter how bloody or horrific such practices may be perfectly done to please the authorities. This forms the major contrast between the social institutions that existed in Panem country compared to the social institutions in existence in the contemporary world. The currently existing social institutions in the today’s world are not characterized by the use of rigorous force. One can argue that mutual understanding forms the underlying and guiding principles to the existing social institutors.
Sociological theory:
The structure of the twelve districts relates to structural functionalism sociological theory. The districts divided in such a manner that each specialized in the production of specific goods or services. Each District heavily specialized in one line of economic activities. This made the Panem appears stratified based on economic activities rather than race or ethnicity. This enabled social interaction in the course of operating their various activities in each of the districts. The trade among districts enables social interaction in the community making people understand others as their brothers sharing the task of production. (Collins 2008,pg.26)
This theory enables individuals to major and specialize in production due their locations of business. Specialization will help simplify tasks and increasing the quality of the products.
In conclusion, the movie has reflected almost all aspects of the communities living in Panem giving them unique features, which are responsible for their current situation. The cultural aspects of the people of Panem are well demonstrated by the Hunger Games.
