Various studies have found that intelligence is associated with many good things including occupational and academic success, better relationships, and resistance to stress. From the Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences (MI) Website, I learned that my top three intelligences include social, nature, and body movement. Ned Herrmann’s “brain dominance” research indicates that individuals have their “Main Preferred Ways of Knowing.” Brain dominance theory the preferred way of knowing, I realized that I am a thinker and my preferred educator is a content expert. I am a logical and reasonable thinker who is good at problem solving and can easily handle numbers, precise and rational. However, my weaknesses are that I tend to avoid people and lengthy conversations, mechanically and arrogant to some extent. I also do not value the importance of other people’s feelings, intuition, and personal experience. I found that his data could help me understand my capabilities and learning capabilities, which could be instrumental in fostering individual development. From this information, I was able to learn that I can easily solve problems without consulting anybody. This trait can help complete my education and enhance my career choice as well as becoming a good leader.
My career choice is Graphic Design, to which I believe fits in with my particular career choice. My preferred way of knowing is through finding facts and analyzing data, dissecting out and solving problems logically. I am social, which implies that I like developing ideas and learning from others. I am also sensitive to nature and environment, which means that I can easily do courses related to humanity. My “preferred ways of knowing” is compatible with Graphic Design because I learn through logical analysis and creativity. However, the only weakness is that I am mechanical and aloof, which implies that participating in class discussion can prove difficult lending me unable to function well in class.
My brain dominance matches the job requirements that I researched in the DI assignment. I am a thinker, which means that my main concerns are facts and theories. Graphic Design job requires helping companies to reach their goals and objectives, profitability, productivity, and industry penetration among other areas, through the introduction of creativity and innovation, especially with regard to product design. Graphic Designers may work in a single department or overall operations of the company, depending on the size. According to the test, my preferred way of making decision is through reasoned analysis aimed at producing a thoughtful decision. Such abilities can enable one develop creative strategies that can allow a company achieve its organizational goals and remain ahead of the competition in the industry by employing innovation. Active thinking can enable graphic designers devise innovative elements in designing products, which to a greater extent matches my job requirements.
My strong social skills can help influence teams in a company in order to enable them improve their performance. Some of these strengths can also enable me take innovative roles in environmentalist organization that require people who can engage in external activities. I noticed that I have a good sense of self, which means that I can spend much time drawing plans and to inform teams of the way forward. The ability to solve problems also fit the job requirements that I summarized in the Discipline Investigation paper. As a business professional, I would need problem solving skills to envision how the company can move forward and compete with other firms in the industry.
