Impact of Computers in our Lives.
Computers are one of the most innovative inventions of the century and play a big role in the fields of science, business, medicine and education. Computers allow us to perform multitude functions such as browsing the internet, writing emails, audio and video chat with other people around the globe via Skype, a voice software program.
In the field of business, computers have augmented the scale of global trade through electronic communication. For example, one can see increase in imported consumer goods in local markets. Another example is the Business Process Outsourcing Companies (BPO), where people Asia provide business and technical services to consumers in US and Europe (Pierce 2011).
Pharmaceutical companies use computers to develop and test high quality drugs using state of art medical equipment. One can calculate vital health information such as blood pressure and heart rate with the help of computer devices.
The use of computers in education has made learning for students and teachers an interactive process. Students enjoy using software to make presentations and this makes them more interested in the subject. Distance learning is also possible with computers.
However, with every technology there are certain challenges. Electronic waste can have an adverse impact on human health and the environment if not handled properly (Kovacs 2006).
Popular appeal of computers is challenging the moral and ethical fabric among people. Privacy, cultural identity, self- confidence, copyright and intellectual property, and pornography are major threats today (Cavalier 2005). It is observed that in some cases constant connectivity via computers, human beings tend to isolate themselves from relationships and face loneliness (Cavalier 2005).
