Technology has affected every aspect of human life. It has also affected our education and the way we used to study in the past. Today a number of changes have occurred in the fields of education that benefits students in several ways. This paper intends to discuss how technology has affected the education along with discussing how people used to study in their high schools in the past and what changes have occurred in the high school study due to use of technology in recent times.
Technology was introduced in the field of education during 17th century. Chalkboards slate were introduced in order to facilitate learning of the students in 18th century. Technology significantly impacted education during 20th century. In this time lantern slides, power point slides and projectors, and motion pictures brought significant changes in teaching methodology. Teachers, as well as high school students, started utilizing advance technology in order to enhance learning of the students, and also to make teaching interesting.
In earlier times, teachers adopted programmed instructions that were true technology in a real sense. Later on computers, printers and various other technologies were introduced in education system. All these technologies impacted high school education in a greater way and benefitted high school students. Teachers across the word identified importance of changing technologies in education system, and debated how these technologies can effectively be used in the learning process (Goldin & Katz, 2009).
Initially, teachers used to adopt traditional approach to teach high school students. Teachers used to write content and presented it to the students. On the other hand, high school students were supposed to watch information present by using the latest technology. For example, students used to watch slides carrying content and movies. At that time, technology certainly made teaching process little interesting but not very interactive.
In 21st century technology completely changed teaching methodology, and learning process. Now high school students can find all information online such as books, relevant information, lectures notes, exam papers, access to the library, and various other papers. Technology made learning process very interactive and efficient. Now teachers can share notes using mail; high school student can also clear their doubts by asking teacher online (Mangal & Mangal, 2009). Students who are not well and unable to attend school can submit their homework online, and can also read class notes.
During the time when technology was not there, it was difficult for high school students to reach their teacher. It was also not possible for students to attend their class and get notes in case they were unable to attend the class. Technology increased access to the information significantly, made learning process interactive. Now high school students and teachers both can communicate with other as and when required.
Having observed an overview and succinct analysis of the abovementioned subject, the paper concludes that the technology has affected the area of education in a significant manner. Today, high school students use more technology than ever and using technology benefits them in a number of ways. The process of acquiring knowledge has become faster, and high school students get all the benefits of technology.
