A spring chart is an analysis of a patient’s records that is used for the treatment of that patient (Gabriel, 2008). These records are obtained through testing and analysis. The tests are important because they assist the doctor obtain the data needed in the treatment of the sick person. The procedures are also vital for developing the spring chart, which directs the doctor on what how to diagnose illnesses. In addition, the spring chart contains the diagnosis code section, which provides an opinion concerning what form of treatment will be appropriate in a given health scenario or illness.
Cebul (2012) defines Electronic Health Record (EHR) as a systematic gathering or collection of health information about a population or an individual patient. These records are on different accounts with the patient and are across different health care facilities. In some instances, the sharing happens by use of network connected enterprise systems and other related information exchange systems. The EHR includes demographics, immunization status, medical history, laboratory test results, vital signs, medication and allergies and personal statistics such as age and weight (Gabriel 154).
The function of the test, procedures, and diagnosis code section of Spring Charts is a necessary component for the electronic health records because it will provide the basic information that could be shared across different health care settings. It delivers crucial information at the time of need. The system is helpful in the medical field through its complex nature of providing the needed data on a patient. For example, it has the test and procedure done on a patient before and the diagnosis that was applied. It helps medical staff decide on what is best for the patient in line with the past records and diagnosis done. It also helps in curbing harmful prescription to a patient as all the medical records are provided (Cebul 195).
