Improvement
After this assessment, I learnt that I have various strong points. These areas include my desire to tackle challenges; as a result, I get to learn new things and also I am motivated when I encounter challenging issues. I will use this strength in my academics through tackling challenging study questions; these quizzes will help me have a greater understanding of the topics taught in class. I will combine this strength with another strong point I learned from the assessment: my enthusiasm. I will ensure that stay enthusiastic in my studies through tackling challenging study questions. I will also use my enthusiasm in my workplace to motivate other employees and me to deliver quality services.
According to research, there are more diverse employees in the work place than was the case a decade ago. I am happy that I am able to find common ground with people from different backgrounds as this will help me cope with employees from different cultures. When my ability to work in diverse work environments is combined with my strength to communicate purpose, I believe they give me attributes that would make me a good leader. This is because a leader is supposed to be impartial in how they treat all employees; the leader should also be keen on meeting objectives and not the different backgrounds of employees (Valentine & Fleischman, 2002, p. 303).
I believe in ideal capabilities; hence, I am a person who has high standards and expectations of others and me. This strength is essential in ensuring I set high goals and also work to achieve them. It is based on this strength that I am going to ensure I always have GPA targets during each semester, and that I achieve these objectives.
I have identified several areas that I need to make improvements to better myself. These areas include risk taking, being concerned with areas of improvement and determining ways I can progressively better myself. According to management scholars, it is essential that each employee identifies their strengths, weaknesses and areas they need to improve. An employee is able to give better services to the company when he or she identifies his or her areas of improvement. It is through this quest for improvement that an employee can experience growth in their career. Subsequently, this growth is reflected in growth in the human resource when a majority of employees embrace improvement.
The specific actions that I need to take to improve include increasing communication with my manager and taking more risk. Communication in any organization is a two-way thing; hence, I should ensure that I engage my manager more in communication and not just wait for them to start conversations. This is essential as it will help improve my working relationships with the manager. I will also get to learn which areas the manager thinks I need to improve on. The other action that I need to take is taking more risks.
All plans should be implemented in a strategic and timed approach. In order to achieve my goals for improvement, I intend to start with learning to take risks and then focus on improving communication with my manager. The people involved in this first action are the management and I plan to have completed it by 15th December, 2012. I will know I have improved in this area when I start to take more risks; to monitor for this, I will have weekly assessments on how many risks I am willing to take.
