Quality and performance improvement enhances a huge satisfaction to many customers. The model of improvement is simple yet powerful equipment for accelerating improvement (meisenheimer 1997). The model has turned out to be a success and hundreds of health care in many countries have used it to improve many different health care outcome and processes (medical 2006).
The model is made up of two parts: Three fundamental queries that can be addressed in any order, the plan-do-study-act (PDSA) cycles that implements and tests changes in a real work setting. PDSA cycle guides the test of a change to determine whether the change is an improvement (meisenheimer 1997). Involving right people on a process improvement team is crucial to a successful improvement effort. Medical states that, “a rapid cycle is the utilization of standard quality equipments with skilled facilitators so as to achieve a breakthrough improvement within a rapid time frame; it uses the same toolkit and basic principles as the traditional quality team but the word is accelerated” ( 2006). FOCUS-PDCA is a simple method for performance improvement that managers and staff can be easily taught (lighter, d E 2011). It is also used in the identification of improvement opportunities hence it creates a systematic approach in the implementation of changes. FADE (focus, analysis, development, execution) this is critical to success, it is an important part of overall quality management (medical 2006).
Lean is a practice of production that considers the expenditure of resources for any goal other than the creation of value. Six Stigma means a measure of quality that strives for the near perfection. It is a data driven approach, disciplined and methodology for eliminating defects in any process (lighter, d E 2011).
