How have traditional gender roles been stressful for men and women in today's world? How have they been stressful for you? Have the changing roles altered the stresses on men and women today?
The world changes all the time and with time so do the roles of men and women in our society. Comparing to even the beginning of the 20th century, big changes have occurred. Women have broken through the glass ceiling. With this great achievement they have also somewhat lost the traditional mother role at home. The younger generation feels pressure over choosing which trend to follow and understanding that possibility of having to rely on yourself alone is growing day by day.
With the feminist movement, women have gained much freedom. They can now vote and be treated as equals in the workplace. The possibilities are endless. One can choose to follow the traditional route of the stay-at-home mom, but more and more are choosing their career over family. This puts both men and women under much stress. Not only are they later worried about the possibility of not being able to have kids, but families are also falling apart much easier.
The stress also comes from choosing the right road for you. Going with the traditional men and women roles of the past does seem to provide stability. But avoiding the possibilities that today offers seems like a lost chance. With all the choices that one needs to make, this just adds to the stress of finding one’s place in this world. Nevertheless, the possibilities are out there and all you need to do to reach happiness is to find the right balance.
