Dear Mr. President,
RE: THE SPANISH-AMERICAM WAR
As a matter of fact, war should be avoided at all cost by any nation that has sound legal processes within its boundaries, and on international levels. However, this is not always the case since some situations calls for war as the only possible solution. It is on such basis that a country as the USA enters into war to bring in to an end injustice in specific sections of the world. It is on this premises that the American-Spanish war is justified. Cuba was oppressed and exploited by their colonial masters, Spain. America had a moral responsibility to help liberate Cuba from Spain. The war did not only liberate Cuba, but also marked a turning point several aspects of the American government.
First, the war marked the most initial significant entry of America into world affairs. The aftermath of the war therefore marked the beginning of the American engagement in solving problems of the world by entering into treaties. Such a trend made America to be the world super power as known today, as well as the world police. Secondly, the view of American imperialism also changed due to its engagement in the American-Spanish war. Cuba became stable soon after war due to the actions of the Americans after the war. Capital flow was opened up coupled with independence and peace that saw Cuba develop. Thirdly, the war helped in rectifying the relationships between North and South America. It is because since the end of the Civil war in 1865, the North and South America got a common enemy that brought them together. Therefore, on the face of just war theory, the American Spanish war is justifiable.
