Thinking, Development and Deployment” the author expounded on the theoretical frameworks and applications of strategic planning as a crucial tool to provide direction in the decision-making processes of leaders in an organization. As emphasized, strategic planning incorporates relevant components that include mission, core values, vision and strategic goals . I was convinced that the author provided the significant aspects which emphasize that “employees at all levels can articulate and share the company’s vision and its overall strategic direction” . The assertion was highly commendable in acknowledging that there apparently should not be any barrier to the solicitation of inputs, suggestions, and proposals from any employee, for that matter, when sharing, imbibing, and adhering to the explicitly defined vision of the organization.
One is convinced that it is actually good practice for organizations, upon hiring of new personnel, to communicate explicitly and clearly the mission and vision statements of the organizations. These statements aptly highlight and summarize the direction that the organizations aims to achieve. As such, through clear dissemination of these components, all employees are encouraged to collaboratively participate towards implementing designed strategies towards this direction.
Finally, one agrees to the author’s conclusion that “the systematic organization of the planning job and the supply of knowledge to it strengthen the manager’s judgment, leadership,
and vision” . The ability to design the vision statements would be instrumental in the development of effective strategies that aim to provide accurate guidelines and directions to accomplish them. Therefore, creation of the vision and strategic direction are crucial tools which appropriately assist leaders in their quest towards the accomplishment of well-defined goals.
