Where They Stand” written by Urhuogo and Williams (2011), the authors emphasized the crucial roles that leaders take in leading both innovation and change in an organization. Likewise, the article discussed the relevant role of ethics, as a driving force and influential factor in change and innovation. Also, the challenges that were normally encountered in leading changes and innovation were expounded; including appropriate principles and practices that assist organizations towards successful implementation of changes and innovation.
One is convinced that the arguments asserted by the authors were commendable in terms of stressing the need for leaders to aptly consider the personal and professional interests of their workers in ventures that involve change and innovation. As averred, “for the organization to qualify as best, the leaders and managers need to care about the employees who work in the organizations as well” . Thus, one strongly believes that changes could be effectively managed when employees’ inputs and participation in the change process are duly solicited.
Likewise, one also agrees that there have been evident tendencies for leaders to promote changes and innovation without utter regard for the professional growth of their employees. As a result, the change and innovation that are proposed or newly implemented actually lead to poor performance and low productivity. As asserted: “instead of showing equal concerns for employees and the organizations, the leadership team finds itself caring more for the organizations” . Thus, when leaders are made aware of their relevant roles and influence in the change process; as well as its overall impact on the success of the organization, they could design strategies which would motivate their employees to participate, be actively involved, and support imminent changes that would ultimately contribute towards the accomplishment of personal, professional, as well as organizational goals.
