There are so many advantages that come with converting data from Microsoft Excel into a relational database like that of Microsoft Access. First, this works towards eliminating instances of data duplication. This is made possible by the relationships that can be created across the many tables and entities. By doing this, data stored and records adopt some aspects of consistency making retrieval easier and too way faster.
Any data stored may call for changes at some instances. This also explains why there could be a shift into a relational database. Data stored in relations can be easily edited, changing even the data format but still maintain the integrity of the data. Insertions and deletions can be done on the data without anomalies.
Relational databases also have some sense of high levels of security. Since data is created as many relations, people can be granted access to the relations that concern them only. This way, even the authorized users of the databases can be denied access to some tables that could be regarded as confidential to a group of users. Maintenance of security in relational databases is also easier.
There are so many benefits that come with the use of Microsoft Access in the work environment. Data is stored at one instance making it easier to edit and effect some modifications. This is because when changes are made in one record, it’s reflected in all other records that are linked to the one that has been modified. Microsoft Access also gives the users an efficient and reliable storage platform for their data.
In a managerial perspective, Microsoft Access is the best option since Microsoft products and services are long lasting and reliable. As opposed to other software that may be rendered obsolete in the course of time, Microsoft upgrades its products to provide for better services. Microsoft Access also conforms to the scalability issues of organizations since it can handle large databases.
Being a Microsoft product, integration with other advanced software is possible in the future. Some of these are the different SQL platforms that aid handling of complex queries that Access may not handle on its own. With a few changes and modifications, Microsoft Access could be turned into a full object oriented platform.
