President George H.W. Bush was a conservative in terms of his foreign policy for he firmly believed that it was America’s duty to rid the world of dictators and instill the same kind of democracy that they practice in the United States. While this may appear similar to Reagan’s foreign policy, however, Bush was more active in giving power to various government organizations such as the National Security Council thus promoting the influence of its advisor. Not only that, Bush also took to removing Russia out of its dominant position in Eastern Europe as the Cold War continued to rage on without further aggravating the nation so Western Germany could take back Eastern Germany which would result in a loss of the impact for Communism. At the same time, Bush utilized the traditional diplomatic approach of humoring the leaders of Russia by never declaring victory at the end of the Cold War and striving to keep both Gorbachev and Yeltsin in power.
Bush was also a conservative when it came to the war on drugs which he inherited from his predecessor and went so far to even take on the dictator who was in charge of Panama at the time but what is particularly interesting is that Bush did so by invading Panama and bringing their leader back to the US to face drug charges. Thus Bush was well-known for adopting previous policies and ideologies which he molded to fit his own views as is exemplified in how he dealt with China by not going to war with them but chose to be diplomatic as the US continued to trade with the communist country. As a result, Bush was met with criticism from both those within and without his cabinet who believed that the only way to deal with communism was to actively get rid of it through violent means but Bush clearly did not want to spill American blood if he did not have to so he chose to be slightly more liberal. In other words, while President Bush was conservative in some ways, he was liberal in others.
Although his views varied depending on the issue, President Bush was ultimately conservative as he constantly emphasized how America’s destiny was to bring forth a New World Order where democracy would prevail throughout the world as its citizens are able to live in peace. Bush also advocated for improving the economy and improving the lives of Americans by showing them that they had the means to create the lives they wanted just as Reagan had. In conclusion, Bush pushed for self-realization and for his fellow Americans to help each other because that is what America is all about thus illustrating how he tried to continue what he felt the founding fathers had wanted America to be as the country enjoyed a time of peace and stability. In other words, Bush furthered the American ideology where everyone strives to be the best they can be as they worked to improve themselves and spread American democracy wherever they want. So Bush was a conservative because he considered American democracy to be the only ideology that had to be passed to the rest of the world, otherwise they would be practicing the wrong ideology. This not only meant communist countries such as China and Russia, but England and France as well when they should celebrate their cultural differences.
