During the period between the 1970 and the 1980 the Americans had lost confidence with the federal government. There were various issues that had contributed to this state of commotion. Watergate scandal which caused a lot of political quagmire in the 1970 is just one of the issues that caused the Americans to lose their faith in the government (Olson, pg120). There was also the issue of increased inflation and unemployment rate in America which was also blamed on Nixon’s government (Dore, pg 61).
Consequences of public disillusionment
The reports from the US congress who were investigating the conspiracy found out that president Richard Nixon and his administration had tried to cover up their involvement. In 1974 during the late summer, President Richard Nixon retired because it was obvious the public had lost confidence in him.
How Reagan’s inaugural speech address the crisis
The mood throughout the speech depicts that there is some sort of tension within the country and a state of confusion. Reagan inaugural speech tends to encourage Americans to have hope and to believe that the crisis that the country was going through is over. He mentions that the Watergate saga is over and so the Americans ought to restore their faith on the government. Reagan also explains that the reason as to why there was a lot of Unemployment in the country is because most of the industries had been closed (Reagan, 2).
The solutions that Regan offers
Regan promised to provide equal opportunities for the Americans so as to deal with the economic crisis that the Americans were suffering from. The government system would change under his reign which he explains that idealism and fair play would be the core of the government. His government would provide opportunities for employment and will also foster productivity.
