Before the invention of modern medicinal practice, my grandparents and great grandparents used traditional herbs whenever they were suffering from various forms of sickness. Particularly, my mother explained to me about a few medicinal herbs that were mostly used in my culture, and are still used to date. For instance, I learned about the use of ginger tea and sage herbs in healing. Ginger herbs are used to reduce nausea and soothe a sore throat (The Organic Prepper, 2016). However, my interest was mostly based on sage herbs, sage tea, and sage leaves.
After conducting intensive research, I noticed that sage had similar qualities with rosemary in improving brain memory and brain function. Internet sources and additional information that I acquired from my grandparent confirmed that sage is useful in healing of more than one sicknesses. For example, the herb is used to treat ulcers and bleeding. In addition, this medicinal herb is used as an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, antiseptic, to relieve indigestion, and to reduce muscle tension. Besides, documented facts show that sage leaf is efficient for menopausal sweat reduction (Herbwisdom.com, 2017).
Although the herb is quite effective in healing a dozen of diseases, there is a considerable number of occasions in which the medicinal herb cannot be used. In particular, the herb is quite toxic and must not be administered to individuals with epileptic fits. Secondly, nursing and pregnant women are advised against using the herb because it can result in a series of side effects (Herbwisdom.com, 2017).
In essence, traditional medicinal herbs such as ginger and sage were effective before and will remain helpful for many years to come. With sage’s usefulness in curing a number of diseases, it will remain helpful for centuries. However, it is essential to exercise caution in order to prevent any possible side effects from these drugs.
