Homeopathy is a practice of medicine that depends on small amounts of herbs, minerals, and other substances to activate and energize an individual’s natural defenses. It is based on the beliefs that the body can heal itself and symptoms of illnesses are normal responses of the body when it is trying to regain its health. Some illnesses can turn to other types of illnesses, like eczema can lead to asthma or diarrhea can become rheumatism. Additionally, it was found out that specific types of illnesses can occur in specific kinds of people. Because it relies on the principle of “like cures like” (WebMD), then when a substance in the medicine causes a healthy individual to demonstrate symptoms of illnesses, a small amount of the substance is believed to cure the illness. With just a dose of homeopathic medicine, a person’s body, mind, and emotional condition can be healed without causing any side effects. In essence, a dose of homeopathic medicine promotes the body’s normal healing process.
Fear is a human emotion that can be addressed by homeopathy. It may be caused by social customs, politics, or any forms of threat that puts an individual at risk. Threats may be directed to the individual himself causing hazard on life, threats to financial security, or damage to reputation causing social disgrace, among others. Whatever it is, the important thing is to identify the root cause to be able to provide the appropriate homeopathic measure.
Sensitivity to people is one of the fears that homeopathy can treat. Many times, those suffering from hypersensitivity experience anxiety, social phobia, and extreme nervousness, which affect how they perform their daily work efficiently. Usually, an individual’s alertness and sense of reality becomes blurry when he or she is experiencing anxiety attack (Laguipo). During these episodes, an individual may think that he or she is not important, thus, feeling unconfident and insignificant especially in the presence of other people. These thoughts and feelings do not necessarily mean that they lack mental abilities, but rather a general lack of confidence in their capabilities. As a result, they often think and feel they will fail in any of their endeavors (Miller). These people typically feel afraid and anxious as they only want peace of mind. Sometimes, they avoid social situations because in their mind, people are always talking about them, watching them, and judging them. They even doubt their loved ones as they sometimes irrationally think that they left them for someone else (Gray). When they experience anxiety attacks, they begin to imagine themselves failing on their tasks and everything resulting to negative outcome. It begins to take a toll on their minds, which makes them experience imagined and real body pain and mental and emotional stress.
Fear of people is typically caused by a traumatic or negative past experience that happened in the individual’s life. Similar to the rubric on fear of animals, this is a general fear of all animals and not just of specific animals such as a dog or a cat (Narayana Verlag 50). If the individual’s fear was borne out of an experience in childhood where he or she was attacked by a dog, then it falls under the fear of dogs rubric. This fear only becomes more significant when the fear is one that the individual cannot explain or has no logical basis (Narayana Verlag 50). Fear of animals commonly occurs in women and children.
Another rubric that may be significant in this comparison is the fear in a crowd rubric, which should not be mistaken as the same with fear of people. Fear in a crowd is what an individual feels when he or she is in a group of people such as in theaters, stadiums, cinemas, and other similar crowded places (Narayana Verlag 50). This is because fear of people is a general fear regardless of the number of people present. It could be just one person, two persons, or more. Usually, this kind of fear also involves feelings of harassment or discrimination. One patient clearly stated, “People frighten me because they can react very aggressively – they can attack you for no reason at all” (Narayana Verlag 51).
Plants and herbs have always been used as remedies for various diseases and illnesses. In this case, hyoscyamus, lycopodium, and pulsatilla have been included in the rubric of ‘desire for’ because of their healing properties in treating symptoms for people who desire to be included in social groups or their common desire for acceptance. Initially, hyoscyamus was used as painkiller and medicine that can help induce sleep. But later on, it was found out to be good for people who display “paranoid characteristics and enduring behavioral problems” (“Homeopathy Hyoscyamus”) who experience agitated behaviors, confused mental state, and paranoid or suspicious attributes since birth. Sensitivity or fear of people means the individual lacks self-confidence, which is why lycopodium is used as a remedy for them. This homeopathic medicine is advisable “when preventive nervous anxiety strongly appears in the psychological symptoms of an individual” (“Homeopathy Lycopodium”). It has been found out that lycopodium is a good remedy in the cure of emotional disorders that may be attributed to insecurity, such as nervousness, insomnia, fear of the night or dark, cowardice, and more. These people usually cover up their lack of confidence by pretending to be overly confident or being disdainful of others. They have a general dislike of other people, but ironically do not want to be left alone (“Homeopathy Lycopodium”). Finally, the homeopathic remedy pulsatilla is said to work best for people who generally have a sweet and accommodating disposition. They are averse to confrontations, but are prone to mood swings. They demand attention, but because of their mood swings, would suddenly change their disposition frequently (“Homeopathy Pulsatilla”).
