Introduction
As an individual, life experiences have shaped many processes of my life and even changed my life plan. Some of the relationships I have had with people have affected my reasoning and problem-solving abilities. My observations of my parents’ ability to manage issues and crisis have taught me different management skills and have changed my life mission completely. However, even with the experiences, it is my ability to understand the situations and interpret the solutions that enabled me to learn. The experiences I have had in different parts of my life have made be a better leader with a vision and mission plus the ability to quickly come up with solutions for different problems.
In 2008, my dad lost his job. This was the time I realized how good a manager he was. At this moment, I thought I would probably have to drop out of school because of financial problems. But to my surprise, by the time I found out that he lost his job, he had already spent two months searching. He had anticipated that he was one day going to lose his job. In preparations, he had saved enough money that would sustain us against financial problems in case it happened. He had also made different investments which he managed to cash in on, in order to cater for the family needs. Through this situation, I learned how to be a good manager. A good manager should be able to see ahead and plan for the future. A good manager should be able to evaluate and anticipate the risks and future problems. He should be able to prepare for such issues and assure the subjects that the organization will still be running even with problems. My dad managed to get another job and everything went back to normal. I realized that good leaders should strive to find a permanent solution to the problem as soon as possible.
Most recently, after graduating from high school, I spent too much time playing video games. On one occasion, after a long day playing, I had an altercation with my best friend. He saw me as a person with no future and no dreams. I only thought of playing video games and sleeping. He decided to warn me about it after a very short and uncomfortable argument. It was when he left that I realized that he was completely right. After that day, I took a book and started planning my life. I wrote down my mission and vision statements. I wrote down a number of goals that I want to accomplish within the next five years. Again this lesson taught me how to be a good planner. The lesson gave me a purpose and taught me how to develop a life plan.
After attending the first leadership class, I researched more about leadership and better leadership skills. I watched videos on YouTube in the search for the skills that would make me a better leader. At the end of it all, I realized that leadership is not something that one can learn in one lesson or two. I learned the leadership is a process and is learned through experience and interactions with others. Through this, I will be more attentive to the situations I face in life and the opportunities that I have in life. I will focus on my mission and vision to ensure they are in line with what I do in my everyday life. Even without a leadership role, I feel like I am a better leader because I now know how to interact with people and learn from them.
Conclusion
Leadership develops through a process of experiences and interactions with people. Through my life experiences, I have learned the most important skills of leadership. First, I have learned how to make plans for the future. Second, I have learned how to make quick and reasonable decisions. Three, I have learned how to interact with people. Finally, I have learned how to evaluate the future risks and problems and prepare adequately to mitigate them. My life experience will help me become a better leader in future when I get into a leadership position. The situations show my ability to learn from others which make me a better leader. In the future, I will become more of an example for people to learn from.
