Nursing has been my passion from childhood. Whenever I was asked what I would want to be when I grow up, my answer was that “I would want to be a nurse!” This passion has grown in me as I went through my junior level education to senior levels. All I wanted was to one day become a good nurse. Many a times when I used to visit hospitals and see how patients suffer, I developed a feeling that anybody with a good heart should always be a nurse. This dream temporarily changed after I joined college. I met friends that introduced me to this school of thought that money is what matters. I was made to believe that the only way to be rich and enterprising is by becoming a businessman. I decided to take Business Administration in my undergraduate degree, a decision that I regret till now. Now that I have completed my bachelors’ degree, I am planning to start pursuing my true dream, becoming a nurse.
My first step towards this endeavour is to obtain a post graduate bachelors’ degree in nursing. I have been thinking of joining a full time bachelor degree course. However, due to many responsibilities that I have, and because I want to save on time, I am planning to enrol for an accelerated nursing programme. This will enable ma achieve the same goal within a shorter time span. I have done my research and found out that the best university to pursue an accelerated program in the University of Memphis. University of Memphis offers Accelerated BSN Program more efficiently and cost effectively. I got the chance to meet a number of practicing nurses who underwent the same programme in the university; all of them gave me positive recommendations about the collage. University of Memphis has adequate nursing lectures as well as nursing training facilities to enable them offer the quality education. With the availability of teaching and referral hospital at Memphis University, I am well assured that I will get the opportunity to undertake substantial practical with modern equipment which will impart me with the skills and knowledge required in the nursing profession. It will take me a minimum of 15 months to complete my studies. I am planning to work hard so that I can take the minimum period to complete.
Upon completing my bachelor’s degree, I am planning to start practicing as a nurse as I undertake my master’s degree. I have envisaged that my first step is to apply for a grad work from any nursing centre. My number one preference is Methodist University Hospital. Grad work is a part time job undertaken by graduates to support their financial needs as they undertake their studies as well as gain some experience in their professional line (Boylan, 2006). I would want to undertake a graduate job so that I start learning how to be financially independent of my parents and also to acquire experience in my field of specialization. Alongside doing my grad work, I will be undertaking Masters’ degree in nursing from the same university.
The main reason why I have to undertake masters’ degree immediately after bachelors’ degree is the market requirement. Most of the nursing facilities prefer absorbing individual with at least masters’ qualifications. As I need to get absorbed fast in a well reputable nursing facility, it is within my plan to ensure that I have the most marketable qualifications. Furthermore, being a nurse is my passion. I want to help the sick to go through their ailment more smoothly. As I result I need to have the adequate expertise to undertake my duty with a lot of efficiency and professionalism. My dream is to get involved in telenursing. I am therefore planning to undertake a masters’ degree which will give me the required knowledge on the use and operation of telenursing services. Buy becoming a telenursing expert, I believe that I will be able to service more patients effectively with a lot of efficiency and lower costs on the side of the patient.
My long tern plan is to start a nursing facility of my own. My desire to service people is most likely to be hindered when I am an employ working under somebody. I therefore need to have a facility where all my endeavours to help the society will be easily achieved. To start and run a nursing home, one requires having some business administrative knowledge. Some will be forced to employ administrators to help them run their firms; but this will add more expense to the cost of service delivery. Such expenses will lead to an extra burden to the client, which in this case are patient. With my desire to provide an all-rounded nursing facility which is also cost effective to the patients, I need to reduce my expenses as much as possible. With my knowledge in Business Administration, I believe that I have the required expertise to start and run a nursing facility upon graduating with masters’ degree.
As I graduate with Bachelor’s in Business administration, I still believe that my childhood dream of becoming a nurse is still valid. Even though I have felt that I did a mistake in taking Business Administration instead of nursing, I have realized that it was not a mistake at all. In fact if I could have started with a bachelors’ degree in nursing, I bet I could have not thought of undertaking a degree in business administration. Sometimes it is good to start with what you don’t like most before you go to what you like most. Due to my past educational career choices and future endeavours, I believe that my dream of becoming a reputable nurse with a nursing facility will one day come true.
