Increasing Trend of Facebook in Organizations
Introduction
The paper provides a brief discussion of the increasing trend of Facebook in organizations. The problem relates to the behavior of young adults towards the use of social websites. The paper considers the problem at first instance and presents relevant studies as evidence for the study. The discussion section contains relevant details with a description of theories presented in a theoretical framework. Also, the summary or conclusion is provided at the end of the paper to clarify the entire study to the reader.
Background
The workforce in an organization is using social media as a new platform for the communication purpose. Facebook is widely used for special purposes even at the upper management level of the organization. However, official websites of a company are ignored by everyone due to the increasing number of audiences and attraction towards Facebook (Landers and Schmidt 71-72).
Social media is becoming the source of communication among officials that may be risky sometimes. Companies are avoiding official websites for communication with each other that may affect the security and safety of an organization.
Research Question
Why the use of Facebook is extensive in organizations while having official websites and other sources of communication among each other and with other stakeholders?
Theoretical Framework
The topic relates to the topic theory of communication accommodation is relevant to the study as it provides a clear and concise view that how people change their reactions and gestures react while interacting with each other.
Communication Accommodation Theory
The theory explains that people adjust their words or sentences when they meet. It refers to the change in vocal patterns and gestures that people adopt to accommodate to others. The theory applies to the topic as it also relates to the behavior of chosen media for communication (Dainton and Zelley 39). The theory will be helpful in determining the fact that what are the reasons for selecting social website while communicating within the organization?
Literature Review
Nitschke, Donges, and Schade explain that many organizations including political institutions are using Facebook for official purposes. The study found that the trend of using social media for the purpose is effective in engaging a large number of audiences. The political issues that need to be addressed to general public social media play an important role in it Political and states authorities are using such websites to provide information to all as it is observed that most of the people living in different countries use the social website at least one time in a day. The best mean for communicating a message is Facebook as around half of the population use Facebook daily for communicating and interacting with each other (Nitschke, Donges, and Schade 744-745). Khanlari argues that many people think it is an entertainment web page where you can enjoy while communicating with your friends but it is the way of increasing the volume of sales of an organization. The use of social media is essential in the global world as there is a strong need of making relationships with customers. It increases the business of an organization and allows it to create a strong relationship with customers for retention. Although the extensive use of social website such as Facebook declines the graph of the performance of employees, they also get motivation by fulfilling their social needs. (Khanlari 45). Donsbach illustrates that the encyclopedia plays an important role in the communication. Organizations use official ways to communicate with each other. However, they can use social media for that purpose, but there are some issues such as moving towards social life instead of official or professional life. Effective encyclopedia can help you in determining the path for future (Donsbach 49).
Discussion
It is observed that the use of social media is common in the organization, but there are different perspectives for this purpose (Khanlari 46). HR management significantly uses this approach to make a relationship with customers, vendors, and partners. In fact, employees working in an organization always seek time to spend on Facebook or Twitter as they are the modern means of connecting and communicating each other (Looy 14). The culture of the organization plays an important role in promoting or distracting the use of social media within the premises or office timing.
Conclusion
The study reveals that there are two perspectives or opinions of people living in society. The favorable thing is the increasing business relationship for enhancing the volume of sales. The attitude and behavior of people on the use of the social website are missing as it can be collected by conducting a primary research in which the questionnaire will be provided to few employees who are working in global organizations. The differences in opinion regarding the use of Facebook and other social websites in the organizations show that there is a need for further research on the topic.
