Introduction
With every institution, team and or organization, there comes a time when there are wrangles. This is because people get competitive and ambitious hence seek to serve their own interests. In addition, cultural differences may also arise because of the variety of talents from different ethnic backgrounds. This is the same scenario Houston Texans baseball team management are in. In order to demystify the reasons behind the occurrences, there is need for a research. This paper focuses on how that research will be conducted.
The research topic refers to what will be discussed during the research in this case ‘Houston Texans Culture Issues’. I selected this topic because of a myriad factors such as validity, availability of resources, data collection methods and writing of the research ("Library Research Strategy: 8 Steps in the Research Process", 2016). Validity refers to the relevance of the research. Houston Texans Culture Issues is an externally validated research because it deals with a general topic. I selected the topic because it has available secondary sources that can be studied. The data collection for the research is easily doable because it is both qualitative and quantitative, hence provides much flexibility. Finally, this research will follow the normal research writing format making it convenient and easy to write. All the above process were selected due factors such as time, required resources, writing procedure and the relevance of issue being researched.
Literature review
This section of the research will provide insight into the case currently being experienced by the Houston Texans. In order to find relevant information, I will have to conduct an online search into secondary sources that have already dealt with similar cases. Below are 3 main researches that I found helpful to the upcoming study.
An excerpt from the 2nd edition of sports management skills is one of the literatures that will come in handy during the research. The study in the book is about how sports managers influence team culture (Lussie & Kimball, 2016). This is directly related to the situation in Houston Texans. It focuses on important factors such as organization culture, behaviours, values and beliefs and the difference between strong and weak cultures.
The second literature that will be reviewed will be the journal of sports management published back in 2000. It also focuses on organization culture, but in Western Australia sport organizations. Through employing a quantitative methodology, they were able to come to a conclusion that there exists tension between employees and volunteers, which result to problems that face the management of the teams (Choi & Scott, 2016). This will be particularly crucial because it will provide a base for conducting this research.
The third and final literature review is from the journal of sports management VOL 10. It provides an insight into the dynamics of organizational culture. It looks at difference types of cultures and the level of strength that they possess (Colyer, 2010). This journal will help provide more information that will assist in designing the research on Houston Texans.
Research design
Research method
This section discusses the techniques that will be engaged while conducting the research. Through research methodology, I will be able to define the path I will take in terms of data collection and analysis for the Houston Texans research. This research can easily exploit both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Qualitative method can be used because data collection through observation can be used to see how the team employees behave in the work place environment. Quantitative research can be employed through using the team as a sample and study then analyse them based on statistical tools.
Data collection
This section of the research involves tools that will be used to gather the required data for the analysis and discussion sections of the research ("Research Methods", 2016). Because the Houston Texans research can be both qualitative and quantitative, difference tools and techniques can be used.
Collection of data through questionnaires is the first option. Questionnaires refer to a method of data collection where specific questions relevant to the study are designed and written and sent to participants through email or print. They may be open ended (the participant can write anything) or closed ended (the participant has a limited choice of already written answers). Questionnaires are good for data collection because they are time saving, cheap and easy to analyse. Interviewing is another possible technique. It ensures less bias compared to questionnaires and might be time saving in some cases. Finally, we can employ the use of study samples to seclude the different managerial levels. This will enable us to get finer details with regards to cultural behaviour. This method is however, very interfering and time consuming.
Conclusion
The Houston Texans Culture Issues will be a very interesting research topic. This is because it provides a couple of challenges and solutions at the same time. There are several other researches of its kind such as those mentioned in the literature review hence easier to relate. There is ample time to conduct the research and it does not pose any writing challenges. I find the topic relevant because it focuses on hurdles that re faced by our sports organizations, hence the findings and conclusion arrived at may easily make a real world change.
