The mandate of the UN and The Organization's Contribution to Global Cooperation.
The United Nations as an international organization is mandated to enforce international law, security, social advancements. Economic development, and human rights for nations across the world. The organization is divided into five branches including the UN General Assembly, the UN Security Council, the International Court of Justice (ICC), The Economic and Social Council, and the UN Secretariat (Briney). All these branches integrate to enhance global corporation through the Center on International Cooperation. The CIC creates ideas, analysis, and policies that are needed to improve the fight against global challenges, increase peace and security, strengthen fragile states, secure strategic resources, and solve issues on climate change ("About | Center On International Cooperation").
The Significance and Responsibilities of the UN Security Council
The UN Security Council is the most powerful of the five branches of the UN and has the power to authorize the deployment of member states militaries, mandate cease-fires in the case of conflict, and enforce penalties on non-compliant states (Briney). Under the UN Charter, functions and powers of the Security Council include
maintaining global peace and security
investigating international disputes and friction between countries
recommending methods of resolving conflicts and negotiating terms of settlement
formulation of plans for the establishment of armament regulation systems
determination of threats to peace and aggression and recommend actions to be taken when these threats occur
take military action against aggression
recommend admission of new members
exercise trusteeship functions of the UN in strategic areas
call on members to employ economic sanctions and other similar non-violent measures to enforce peace and stop aggression
recommend appointment of the secretary general to the General Assembly
Elect judges of the ICC together with the Assembly ("Functions and Powers of the United Nations Security Council").
