According to David Logan tribal leadership video, it focuses on five kinds of tribes that people naturally form which in turn influences their behaviors. In every community, the day to day language that is used by people at their work place and their relationship with other members of the tribe is an indication at which stage is the tribe functioning (Logan & Fischer, 2008). They explicitly dismiss all beliefs, attitudes or other factor which cannot be observed directly. By focusing on language and behavior there are more in the behaviouristics tradition, than grounding their tribes in cognitive framework.
This stages which David Logan talk about are elaborated below
Stage 1: Life is unbearable
Many people are socially separated and the meaning of their words is that luck is not on their side in this life. So, it’s okay for them to risk their life for them to survive.
My life is unbearable
Many people do little to get by, showing either no concern or passion and end up engaging in immoral behaviors (Logan, 2008).
Stage3: I’m smart (and you`re not)
Tribes engage in anything that`s trending and put all their passion, energy, labor and commitment into it. When you closely investigate them they talk more about themselves hence focusing on existing smarter than the rest of the world. They say they are focused on community work but their actions portray at large personal interest. People tend to establish a two way –individual relationships, hence, if they are able to develop a group of ten, they develop relationships. They rather split people together and go further not to share their information expect when it`s necessary, and they boost themselves for having intelligence than others. Coming frontline is all that matters and that too is complicated. Individuals within this period complain that time is not on their side and that individuals within their circle aren’t as dedicated as they appear to be.
Stage 4:We are great(and they are not)
What they talk focuses on’ we` not `me’. When two parties get into a quarrel, the third party comes in and gets them into good terms but doesn’t create a personal following for himself (Hart, 2006).
Stage 5: Life is Great (Innocent Wonderment)
Here the idea of communication is not limited but bound by the goals of the tribe. The tribes at this stage are able to work with all social classes of people provided they abide to their goals.
David Logan theory is greatly applicable in our tribes, like the 1st stage is about survival and safety and getting together to outsmart the cruel environment. 2nd stage is more personal and (none) motivational in nature .The 3rdis about accomplishment and has an achievement and focus .The 4th is the most tribunal with social focus and a visible enemy .The fifth stage has an imaginative and innovative focus.
David Logan’s theory can impact an approach to change in tribes .Here the idea is to find how extreme mass of individuals evolve to the next level, which gives a better self-sustaining kind of culture .This is done through by helping each other directly in changing the type of words they use and the type of relationship they form .The change happens within people and then begins to radiate outwards as other people observe the change and modify themselves accordingly.
Position statement
According to Hillary Clinton speech she communicates her vision of change if she could have won the 2016 election she had very positive manifestos of changing her country. She was ready to make the economy of the country work for everyone, not just those on top, protecting the planet and breaking down all the barriers that hold American back from achieving their dreams. She also said that the American dream is big enough for everyone for people of all races and religion. If she would have made it she has done a lot positive things in the county. She was ready to embrace change and ready to stand up what she believed is important .Clinton is a courageous leader since she knows that fear is the greatest obstacles to resiliency in leadership since it causes leaders to retreat from their possibility rather than moving forward toward creative action
Clinton speech can be categorized as a powerful vision of change since she said she was ready to bring together the divided America country and she was ready to work with Donald trump despite of her loosing.
Conclusion
David Logan’s theory on the tribe is a valent and coherent since it brings people together and emphasizes that tribal leader is not about shifting and varying ideas or acquiring knowledge: in fact, it entails varying the acquaintance and languages of people .It is not about intellectualizations it is about acting .I belief if Clinton was lucky to win the election she would have done what she had promised the people. .“Survival and safety would guarantee togetherness to outsmart the cruel environment”. The 2nd is about personal account, the same magnitude as theirs. There exists very little fear and stress and perhaps of work place conflict .People speak as if the whole globe is looking at them, which perhaps may be the case, as their own outcomes are creating history
