Research is an important aspect when it comes to determining the course of a problem in a society and finding a solution to the problem. After my recent appointment into the organization, I discovered that there is little research that has been done with regards to working on solving the situation regarding youth homelessness in South Australia. Based on my survey, I found out that previous reports on the situation in South Australia had been based on hunches and anecdotal evidence which in my opinion is too shallow to help solve the situation. It is important that a deep research is carried out to help restore the situation back to normal (Lindlof & Taylor, 2011). I find that there is a need to involve a research consultancy to aid in conducting the research in South Australia rather than basing the research on the findings of the organizations which are not sufficient.
Communication requires proper interaction among people. In research, communication is a very important aspect since it helps in gathering primary data which is firsthand information from the people. However, the previous communication in the research that has been ongoing for the organization with regards to the state of homelessness in South Australia was poorly conducted. As the new communications manager in the organization, I would like to request you to authorize the use of a research consultancy for a more strategic approach that will help the company in research communication.
Based on my experience as a researcher, I find that there are numerous benefits that can be accrued from an extensive research based on facts and figures rather than hunches and anecdotal evidence. I consider research important in many ways. Some of them include;
Research gives a comprehensive coverage of every aspect in the field – through a research consultancy, there will be a good research conducted in the area of coverage. As a result, there will be a comprehensive coverage of all aspects in the field. In comparison to using anecdotal evidence, research will provide primary data which will provide all information required with regards to a particular situation. For example, the company is aware that there is a situation with regards to homelessness in South Australia. However, the company does not have specific information with regards to how bad the situation is and the amount of aid that is required from the government and NGOs. Research will help provide all the data required to answer all the questions (Jablin, & Putnam, 2001).
Empirical analysis of information provides high quality and reliable data – Without conducting a proper research, the organization would be unable to find reliable information of the situation. The people in South Australia require assistance from government and non-governmental bodies. However, if the company cannot provide accurate and clear information with regards to the situation, the organizations would be unable to provide the required assistance to solve the situation.
Research provides information required for in-depth examination of a situation or a specific area of interest – Through comprehensive research, the company will be able to know the specific areas of interest with regards to the situation in South Australia. When a research is conducted, the results should be able to not only solve the problem, but also identify a way to stop the occurrence of similar situations in the society again. Research is thus important in providing information that is required for in-depth understanding of a situation in a place. Understanding a situation will help in developing solutions to the problem in numerous ways. For example, if the trigger factor for the situation with regards to homelessness is unemployment, there would be a need to develop a strategy to solve the unemployment crisis in that particular area of interest.
The company needs the services of a research consultant since without proper research; the organization would miss the opportunities available to help solve the problem facing the youth. Resultantly, when the homeless youths are not helped, they may turn into crime as a solution to their problems which will mean that, the society will be faced with another problem of insecurity that requires a solution. The problems faced by the youths may come back to haunt the people in the country yet the problems could be solved by a simple comprehensive research.
As a communications manager, I will ensure that I manage the consultancy’s work on a daily basis. In managing the work, I will require daily comprehensive reports and information of the work conducted by the consultancy. The information will help me track developments in the research. Communication in the research will be important in determining the right choices for the next steps to be covered by the research. Additionally, I will ensure that the consultancy will have enough manpower to collect the primary data which is important in analysis. Information acquired will be based on facts and not estimated evidence which cannot be trusted (Conrad, & Poole, 2005).
I will ensure that the research is well conducted and the funds invested do not go to waste in the long run. I also believe that research consultancies are experienced in conducting the research work and the results are most likely to help resolve the situation in one way or another. Enhanced communication throughout the research will ensure that I do not miss any piece of information that is important in conducting the research. I, thus, trust that the research consultancy will be important in solving the problem that is faced by the South Australian residents and the young people.
