Personal Needs in Communication
Personal Needs in Communication
Communication is the passing of data verbally, non verbal, or written from one party to another with or without any mechanical media for facilitation. It is a crucial aspect of life because people with differences of similar views of life share with each other and new discoveries may arise. For effective communication, there must be an understanding between the needs of the involved individuals. The reason for selecting this communication theory is to gain a better insight and understanding of balancing message passing and individual needs. More information will be obtained on how communication has been in the past and is done in the technological world. In addition, the theory helps develop better ways of communication with different people or systems because there will be a better understanding of the various methods to use. People learn how to communicate as infants from the individuals who they grow with; hence, the growth environment is critical. An example, if a kid grows in an abusive environment; there are very high chances of having offensive communication. For effective communication, individuals must understand their personal needs to know what message they need to pass to others (Snehota, 2015).
Importance of Understanding Your Personal Needs in Communication
It is necessary for an individual to know his or her personal needs to have an understanding of effective communication. The needs guide in the best ways to communicate in varying circumstances in life and helps avoid any biased judgments.
Communication is an important aspect of life, and useful skills are crucial to the success of businesses and the relationship between individuals. Knowing your personal needs in communication helps prevent any misunderstandings among the involved parties (Lorette, 2016). When there is a clear way to pass the intentions, needs, and wants of others, chances of any misunderstanding are minimal and it helps limit the disagreements. An example is when a doctor gives clear instructions to a patient, and they are understood; there are high chances of recovery.
Excellent communication strategies facilitate in the strengthening of relationships. When a person knows what he or she want and share information in a business and personal life, it helps to have a better understanding among individuals (Floyd, 2006). Knowing each other more act as a strengthening pillar for a new or existing relationship. An example is in a business where customers and sellers build a good rapport because of their friendly ways of communication.
Effective communication helps build confidence among people and parties. When a person passes information well, others respond positively, and this makes the person feel respect and trust in oneself. Confidence is achieved when a person feels his or her personal needs are well understood and addressed by others.
Communication can act as a way to relieve stress because when people share their challenges and difficulties, it helps minimize the stress levels and anxiety in life (Lorette, 2016). Sharing with people who understand your personal needs feels like they have taken some of your burdens and you are left relaxed.
Research of balancing of individual needs in communication has been done in the past and is still continuing as a way to develop ways of passing information efficiently. In the past, the forms of communication included drums, horns, and lighting of a fire. The passing of the information could be disrupted, and some information was lost before reaching the intended parties due to factors like lack of understanding among the parties. The discovery of useful communication tools such as mobile phones came as a result of the needs of the people. Individuals needed to communicate from far distances and in real-time, which the use of drums and letters could not handle. The needs of individuals pushed the scientists and engineers to engage technology in communication and come up with the tools that we effectively use to pass information.
Personal Gain from the Topic
Communication happens in our daily lives and determines many of the outcomes of the day. It is necessary to have effective communication skills to create an understanding with other parties and people. With the knowledge I have gained, I will develop excellent communication skills by understanding all the personal needs that facilitate sharing of information. When passing information, I should not let my needs to control the conversation fully, but there is a need to understand the needs of others and create a neutral platform of understanding.
Conclusion
Communication is essential in life and people cannot live without sharing information. However, poor communication is damaging and can cause broken relationships and failure in business. For any humble communication to exist there is the need to understand the personal requirements of those involved and create a balance between them so that all the individuals will feel free and satisfied when sharing their views. Most companies fail due to poor communication that does not consider the views and personal needs of the subordinates, but acts as a one-way message-passing, in which the workers are given directives without any care of their needs. For success, firms should consider the personal needs of all the stakeholders before making decisions, and this will strengthen their communication.
