Article Review: Baldness Treatments May mimic Animals Winter Coats
Just imagine scientists have devoted so much research towards baldness in both men and women to make the startling discovery that treatment dermatologists’ use in their attempt to regenerate the function of hair follicles found within the skin, can be adapted towards understanding animal winter coating during the change of seasons (MyHealthDailyNews, 2011)
Precisely, in making the connection with animals, Dr Cheng-Ming Chuong, University of Southern California, advanced the assumption that hair growth in animals is stimulated by hormones manufactured in the dermis. Apart from that there is evidence of environmental stimulation as well. He associates the seasons and natural chemical produced in the atmosphere as being responsible for hair loss and hair growth (Chuong, 2011).
Even though the physiology influencing this hair growth and hair loss was not fully explained Dr Chuong (2011) projected enough assumptions for dermatologists to continue their research on this issue. Importantly, he describes the interaction by saying, ‘The hair-follicle stem cell is not only listening to the voice in the stem cell, but also the voice from outside’( Chuong, 2011).
Further he clarified that despite success in contemporary stem cell intervention regarding restoration of hair growth scientists should be looking at ways to resolve human connection with nature which is still active in animals. He refers to it as the ‘extra follicle affecting factor’ (Chuong, 2011).
In interpreting this phenomenon physiologically, the ‘extra follicle affecting factor’ in humans is related to neurons found beneath the dermis that intermingle with hair follicles, sebaceous glands, which connect with nerve centers in the brain. Human evolution or modernization and social change interventions might have removed these outward motivating stimulants.
