There exist numerous distinctions between the culture of United States of America and Saudi Arabia. Some of these distinctions are basic things like culture. Having stayed in these two areas I realized that there a myriad of things which differ from each other. Additionally, there are others which are similar; however, most of things differ. This paper evaluates the cultural differences between United States of America and Saudi Area. The differences to be evaluated are varying women rights in these two jurisdictions, the education system and the adherence to rules. Another aspect is the polychromic nature of Saudi Arabian culture and the monochromic culture of USA.
In the United States women are treated differently; they are accorded respect, given good education and there are strong rules to defend them. This is different in Saudi Arabia, whereby women lack the right to accomplish anything on their own unless they are permitted by a man, either husband or father. In Saudi Arabia women lack the right of voting or expressing their opinion. Additionally, the women have been lacking the right to be educated or work. Nonetheless, at present the society of Saudi has started accepting the idea of the right of women to work and access education. However, Saudi has a long way to go to get rid of the notion amongst some individuals who have the view that women are for procreation and should stay at home. I was amused to learn that there is a women organization in Saudi Arabia currently, which is aimed at supporting the rights of women. Generally, in the United States women have more rights as compared to their Saudi Arabia counterparts. Women in USA have the right to access education and work and even travel to whichever area they wish to go at any moment. On the contrary, for the Saudi Arabia women, when they wish to travel they should travel with a male counterpart; either her brother or her father and for married women they travel with their husbands. Additionally, women in Saudi Arabia have no right of wearing anything when getting out, but ought to wear a specific clothe known as Abbaya; contrary in the United States women have the right of wearing anything they feel is comfortable for them.
Another thing I observed that many students in the United States are more concerned about their education, and money is offered to these children to access education. In United States, many families are much concerned about the future of their kids; the majority of parents try to work hard to get adequate money to enable their children access quality education. On the contrary, in Saudi Arabia most people are not much concerned about the academic life of their children. In the worse situations some families are unaware of the schools in which their children go; probably this is because education in Saudi Arabia is offered for free unlike in United States where it considerably expensive. Comparing the education system in USA and in Saudi Arabia, there are significant differences, starting with the materials studied by students to the way students are accepted at school. When I was studying in Saudi Arabia, what we used to do is saving the information and performing exemplary well in the final exam. Some materials are inappropriate to be studied by students and the Education Ministry should come up with a policy that gives children the opportunity to start studying English at early age and other issues and also improve other issues affecting the Saudi Arabian education system. As a matter of fact, the government of Saudi Arabia spends quite amount of money to improve the field of education and also they pay numerous schools, but have failed to provide good materials for studying. In this regard, I suggest that the study materials should be looked into and improved. Most of the Saudi Arabian students move to other countries like UK, USA, and Japan to complete their education after graduating from high school. Saudi Arabia is not a good place for someone to undertake their masters since there are few majors and there are rigid rules which determine whether someone qualifies for a certain major. Conversely, colleges in the United States are the best globally. One is able to get any major they are willing to pursue.
The rules are different for the two jurisdictions. The different sides have different punishments. For instance, a person who murders another person in Saudi Arabia may face a death penalty or if the family of the victim is willing may forgive the offender it is acceptable. However, in the United States, most of the states are against capital punishment. Additionally, there are specific rules in the United States for those driving on the roads like stop signs, speed limits and other rules which are followed strictly. On the other hand, in Saudi Arabia people do not follow these rules strictly; for instance, you may see people crossing the stop sign without stopping or speeding over the limit; this explains why there are large number of deaths in Saudi Arabia resulting from road accidents. Also I found that in the United States education rules are very tough; for instance, cheating in exams may make the student be excommunicated from school and he or she may find it hard to secure another place to study. Contrary, in Saudi Arabia, during exams students engage in cheating and in some worse situations the instructor may assist the student in the cheating.
The Saudi culture appears a polychromic while the United States culture is monochromic. In Saudi there is respect to the natural cycle and the time is shared. Individuals here do various things at the same time and their concept of time is significantly flexible. In the United States things are done within a specified time, and the time is segmented into precise units. In united states, time is scheduled arranged and managed, and punctuality is valued. The non-working days for Saudi society are Thursday and Friday while the non-working days for America are Saturday and Sunday.
In conclusion the differences between USA and the Saudi Arabia are significantly many. The major ones are the difference in the way women are treated in the American society and how they are treated in the Saudi Arabian society. In the United States women have more rights than Saudi Arabian counterparts. The education system in the United States is superior to that of Saudi Arabia and more expensive as well. Another cultural different is the manner in which United States people adhere to set rules both in schools and in the public. The Americans adhere to rules more than the Saudi Arabians. The Saudi Arabian culture is polychromic while that of America is monochromic.
