Interview Report
The interviewee is Health Information Technologist at a local hospital in Ohio State. According to the interviewee, one needs to be a forward-minded student from the onset of high school education in order to fit well in Health Information Technology profession in the future. As the interviewee claimed, while seeking admission at the university, he was asked to produce a high school diploma or a General Educational Development certificate in case he did not have a high school diploma. Besides the diploma or the certificate mentioned above, several colleges and universities demand one to take standardized exams like SAT or ACT before admission. The interviewee contended having taken SAT before he could get admission in the university. At the university, he pursued a Health Information Technology degree.
The interviewee was keen to mention that there are certificate programs in health IT for people who want to take entry level jobs in various hospitals. Additionally, one can also enroll for Associate Degree in Applied Science in Health IT- the Associate degree in this case on focuses on some of the major areas of Health IT profession such as computer technology, billing, and health care administration.
While applying for the job, the interviewee recounted the advert stating “the technician should have experience in clerical procedures, word processing skills, transcription as well as experience in other office procedures”. The interviewee appended that his knowledge in programming placed him ahead of other people who were also seeking the same job.
In parting, the interviewee remarked that for one to make a good health information technologist, one needs to have emblematic communication skills, both written and oral, as the profession involve a lot of communication (with superiors and patients, among others). Besides, one needs to be in possession of eyes that incessantly crave for details as well as impeccable problem solving skills. Regarding the eyes that crave for details, the interviewee asseverated that such eyes are excessively utilitarian for billing, especially when the technologist wants to bill a patient with multiple insurance carriers on top of others like the workers’ compensations carrier. Furthermore, with in mind that the job is demanding, one needs to be ready to work for longer hours than is stipulated in the job contract agreement.
