Personal statement.
The foundation for my zeal to study in business related courses grew up after my graduation from Bodwell High School in December 2011. This was after learning that entrepreneurship and innovation are the key elements in driving an economy and building ones future (Wolf 2009, pp.34). I learnt that business is the core foundation of growth and that the government is in the forefront in pushing for studying business. The course has a ready market in terms of employment and sole proprietorship.
For four years, since grade 10, I have been studying in Canada. My stay in Canada has come as a double catch in terms of learning; despite studying business, I have managed to learn the key concepts applied in English as a language. This is in terms of reading, speaking and writing the language. From April 2012, I have been studying business education at Langara College. In this college, I have managed to study business courses such as Business Computing, Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, and Business Calculus and Applications.
However, most of what I have studied is in theoretical form. I still need to further my skills in practical forms, which are required in successful entrepreneurship and business. Despite the wide variety of choice of universities and colleges, RMIT has become my preferred choice. This is based on the superiority of education offered by the university, and the provision of knowledge and skills that are currently been demanded in the global job market. The university has a reputation of creating the best in business and commerce backgrounds.
I intend to further my skills in business by enrolling into Bachelor of Commerce in this University. I believe that pursuing this course will guarantee the skills I require in meeting the criteria that the government needs for conducting businesses. To improve on my standards, I intend to transfer what I already acquired from Langara to RMIT so that my overall degree will be inclusive of business and commerce backgrounds. This is a plan intended to boost my decision making abilities in making choices, coming up with innovative ideas, assimilation of different cultures in the market, and in coming up with business strategies that are needed for growth.
The only limitation in meeting this status is on the English criterion that RMIT requires for enrollment in Bachelor of Commerce (Stewart 2009, pp. 83). From my educational background, and my achievements, I feel that I have requirements that the University requires, and, therefore, no need for any bridging courses in English. The courses that I have passed so far are English based, and this implies my abilities to understand, write, read, and fluently speak English. My stay in Canada, for four years, has allowed me to mingle and adopt the English culture. From this experience, I have adopted the language and assimilated its concepts. I feel that this should not limit me from achieving my dreams, as the concepts that I may not have learnt can be acquired as I continue with my degree.
With these achievements, I believe I will gain the apprehension that the business community currently needs. Undertaking this course, in this institution, will be an honor to the demands that have been brought forward by the business community, as well as the government in the provision of business and commerce expertise required in public and private sector. Gaining the theoretical and practical skills from this course will contribute fulfill my ambitions, uplift the growth of the business community, and contribute to the growth of the status of the economy at large.
