Netbooks have the capabilities to run all types of applications because they run complete operating systems. This paper compares and contrast iPad and Notebooks based on different categories.
The first issue to be examined is the support for peripheral devices. IPad was designed to accommodate fewer peripheral devices. iPads do not have SD card slots built in. The camera connection kit is also purchased separately which now offers the SD Card slot and USB port. Connecting to the external monitor also requires one to purchase iPad Dock used to connect to the VGA adapter (Ehrett, 2011). There iPad does not also have webcam for video chats and it is not possible to attach any. On the other hand, netbook has 2 or 3 USB ports which are used to connect all types of external devices. The VGA port for connecting to the external monitor is also inbuilt of the system. Netbook also has webcam video for chats and memory card reader all inbuilt. Therefore Netbook is cheaper compared to iPad because one has to pay extra to get the needed slots.
Another issue that will be used to focus on Netbooks and iPad is surfing of the web. The main aim of handheld devices is to enable users surf the web from any place. Surfing with iPad is agreat experience just like on the Netbook. However, iPad does not support Adobe Flash which is important for flash ads and other flash applications. There are websites that users want to access but still use old HTML not on the standardized HTML-5. It is also possible to open several pages although not on tabs but one can flip between the pages (Pratt, 2010). Rotation and zooming of the screen enables users to have different orientation of the screen. There is no much choice when it comes to the browsers because Safari is the only browser to use. Netbook offers users a chance to have several browsers and it supports flash enabled sites.
There are many aspects than one should consider before buying either Netbook or iPad. For instance, Netbook has a better keyboard or input device compared to iPad. Netbook further supports spreadsheet and other programs. IPad is smaller, lighter and more portable than a Netbook.
