Many high school students worry about getting into college because of the competition. Everybody wants to go so they can get a good job. This means every college gets too many applications. They have to reject some students to be accepted. Everyone wants to go to the best school. Going to college now means it is harder and harder to get in. So many students wish to go so competition for college is the hardest for students in history.
Every student wants to go to the best school. Not everyone can go to the best schools like Harvard or Princeton. They get the most applications. They have to reject a lot of students, even whose grades are perfect. Students who go to Harvard must be better than perfect or have family members who went there too. A family member’s friend tried hard all her life to be perfect with all A grades, but still she did not get in to any school like Harvard or Princeton. There is no hope for most students to go to these schools.
It can even be hard to get into a state school like Florida State or Penn State. These are very good schools but students have to be really good students to get into them too. You don’t have to be perfect. It is easier to get in to the state school if you are from that state. The schools are trying to get bigger so they can have more students. My friend who got into a state school did not have all A grades, but his GPA was very good. Even these schools that are trying to get bigger still have to reject many students who want to go there.
A few schools are not too hard to get into. A community college or online school is much easier to get into. This is a good choice for students having problems getting into another school. A good thing about the community college is they cost less money. They have classes at all times, so students with jobs can still go to school. Lots of students start at the community college then go to another school they like better. It is not too competitive but still has good teachers.
The best schools are too competitive today with no chance for most students to ever hope to go there. Not all schools are like that. Students have to choose schools that are good for their GPA and SAT scores. This is the important thing. Not all schools are too competitive and anyone can go to college if they apply to enough schools.
