James bought Popcorns in China. Does this imply that these Popcorns came from America? This is not necessary the case. However, a majority of us view America as cultural imperialism. Fundamentally, this implies that emerging nations are acclimatizing to the American way of life. For instance, many nations have acclimatized to the American popular music, American TV Shows like MTV, as well as, American foods like McDonald's. In my opinion, Americans have tried to impose their culture to the whole world, through their items. In other words, Americans have tried to make other nations to adjust to their culture through distribution of American brands in the entire world. The following is a discussion of how the history and origin of an item can make it American.
America has transmitted their fast food chains and the capacity of managing a business to many nations. America introduced McDonald's to nations such as UK, Asia and China strategically, and the aim of that strategy was to ensure that those nations had a portion of America (Beck et al. 104. Every time persons from UK, Asia and China had contact with McDonalds, they associated with America’s food and America’s idea of operating businesses effectively. Besides, McDonalds created fun places and joints for families that visit local McDonalds to have food (Crothers 76). At present, the entire world is packed with similar fun places and eating joints. After a while, McDonald’s saw considered to introduce local foods of the countries wherein they operated in order to make the natives have a home experience. Later, McDonald’s decided to return their business and other nations’ menus to America. While such food is extremely popular, it has faced criticism from dietitians, in recent years, because it is harmful and may lead to obesity. Therefore, relating American foods with obesity and junk food has grown to be rather of a stereotype.
Another cultural element that became introduced by Americans to the globe was TV shows and films. TV shows and films that took decades before getting to other nations, presently, take weeks, with the aid of satellites, radio and the internet. A show that is extremely popular is MTV. Americans ensured that they introduced MTV to countries like China and Korea in order for them to understand some aspects of American programs. Similar to McDonald’s strategy, MTV considered employing diverse versions of American programs and integrating local shows of countries within their areas of operation, into the program. Once more, the MTV businesses took Korea’s and China's shows and views back to America. Also, TV has played a significant role in Americanizing persons from other countries Hollywood films. Hollywood stars make people from other countries to admire the slim, long legged ladies and fantasize about the rich tales that form the basis of these movies.
The Americans, also, introduced popular music into the world. We currently admire country music, hip-hop, jazz, gospel music and rap music, which became established by the Americans (Marling 89). Also, most countries listen to American music and try to emulate American artists. Many youths from other countries try to emulate renowned American rap performers, such as, Tupac, Eminem and 50 Cents by adopting their loud styles that are typical of gleaming jewellery. Most music that gets played in the Nyamirambo bound taxis corresponds with the dressing style of passengers. Thus, American music has influenced dressing style, in other nations, to a large extent. Besides, several nations now have music awards that correspond to America’s Grammy Awards. For instance, Kenya has Kisima awards, Uganda PAM awards, while South Africa has Kora awards.
In addition to dressing style of artists, many nations have adopted the informal American style of putting on T-Shirts, Jeans and sports shoes. In many offices, people wear jeans, shirts and a tie. Such people claim to be wearing the American fashion. Boots and hats are also a pervasive reproduction of Texas and Arizona fashion.
Lastly, we cannot assume the profound influence that America exhibits in the expansion of the Internet, as well as, its control (Ben-Rafael and Sternberg 40). Early this year, many countries met at the Tunisian conference, and the main topic of discussion was about Thus Control over the Internet. Particularly, these nations were protesting against the American control over the Internet. These nations felt the need to form an international body that would be in charge of the internet. However, their arguments turned futile as the forum finished in defeat of that row of argument.
In conclusion, Americans appear to have seized globalization. Besides, many nations appear to be yearning for more American items. These nations have acclimatized to the American popular music, American TV Shows, as well as, American foods. Nevertheless, we cannot dismiss globalization on the basis of being Americanization. This is because globalization has the capacity to change more things than merely the food and movies that the society takes, and the outcome can be strongly positive, in the middle or negative.
