Google is a search site for everybody. There can be found the information and news about everything. This site is free of charge and very easy to use. The information there is very accessible. Google understands what people mean and gives them what they want, so it is one of the most popular search sites in the world. Many people compare Google with the artificial intelligence. It is really good but it has a lot of minuses. One of them is described in the article of Nicholas Carr “Is Google Making Us Stupid”.
The article is very informative. The author indicates that using of the Internet really makes us stupid. We can not search the information but take what the Internet proposes to us. So we stop thinking by ourselves. People become lazier and do not want to read long stories or novels. They do not even want to read long articles on the forums. Google gives us the information and we do not select or comb it. We just take and absorb it.
People can spend hours searching some unneed information and watching some stupid videos. They forget how to think and choose the information. People are defined by not what they read but how they read.
At the same time, Carr suggests that the artificial intelligence is cleverer than people and outsmarts them. I do not agree with it. People invented it and still supply it with the information. It will never be cleverer than people. Human brains are the most powerful instrument that has ever been.
I think that Carr is not indicting Google specifically but the Internet in general. There are many searching systems, but Google is the most famous, wide-spread and easy to use. It is like the representative of the Internet in general.
At the end of the article Carr indicates that people are still cleverer than the artificial intelligence and points out that people lead it.
As for me, Google has two sides. It is both very helpful and very harmful. I am active user of Google, but I use it when I need some information concerning shopping or household help (cooking or cleaning). It helps me to find the information which I need when I travel. I can find all the landmarks and sightseeings of every city in the world. It helps to decide where to go and what to eat. It helps people who are searching for the job. We can find there many jobs in every country, so we should just decide what to choose.
Google has lots of pluses. We can find any information there and the statement that Google makes us stupid can be incorrect. Everybody has his own will and the right to choose. If the person is well educated he would use Google for his needs. He would comb it and find what he wants.
According to Carr, one of the main purposes of the Internet and Google is to collect the information about the people and to spread the advertisements. The companies pay large amount of money for the ads on the net. They also buy the clients and sell their goods and services on the net.
Google also helps to spread the information about some important events very fast. People should be informed in order to be safe. The site also indicates the person of the day – a man or woman who influenced the world. It is devoted to his or her birthday. This is really great, because more people get acquainted with the famous scientists or artists who influenced the world.
It is good that we can find any book in Google, because we do not have to go to the library and waste more time for searching it. We can also find any historical document or the parliament laws of any country. It is good because sometimes we do not have the access for these documents for many reasons: geographical, economic, political etc.
Google also helps in every routine situation. We can find there: were to shop, how to cook, what to eat to become slim and what exercises to do to be strong etc.
But I can also agree with the author that the usage of Google really makes people stupid, they do not use their own intellect and believe everything it has. There are many false facts about the animals, people and the Earth in general. Many clever psychologists use it for their benefits. They can easily rein the people who believe all the information in Google. So, every time we open the new page, we must think it over, criticize and do not believe everything in it.
