IT in public sector
As the world of technology evolves, a lot of IT has been deployed in all sectors of the economy. In the past, IT was mainly employed in the private sector but of late, it has gained a lot of use in the public sector.
One of the uses of IT in public sector is law enforcement. Looking into the current laws and constitution, a soft copy which can be retrieved from a government website at any time is always available. This makes it easier for law enforcement agencies to make law abiding decisions while dealing with any justice affair. In the same sector, due to use of IT, any person against the law can be easily found out and picked from whichever location. This is mainly enabled by GPRS tracking which helps a person keep track of the vehicles and any other materials which might be on transit. This reduces chances of theft. In another application of tracking, cyber crimes have drastically reduced and use of cell phones to commit and pass any information which might disturb peace of the country has been curbed.
In another application of IT in public sector, there has arouse the issue of electronic registration of persons. This will enable the government keep in track the population growth rates and ease the process of census. With electronic voting system, the government will also have reduced cases of petition after elections due to election fraud. This can be attributed to the high integrity associated with electronic systems of registration.
Looking at use of IT in fire fighting services, IT has greatly contributed towards increased fire fighting and reduced cases of fire outbreak. In most government owned corporations, there are software packages and hardware components that have the ability to detect light of certain wavelengths and locations in the EM spectrum. Therefore, if a fire breaks out, the sensor devices receive the infra-red light from the flames and automatically turn off certain supplies (for example electricity and gas supply). They also trigger the fire alarm on alerting the people. In some cases, the IT levels and equipment might even make a contact to the nearest fire station calling for assistance.
In conclusion, technology has greatly contributed towards reduction of problems which existed before its emergence. Therefore, by embracing technology, the world is moving towards reduced cases of a problematic world.
