Giotto’s artistic style changed the whole history of the art. He moved from the dark and heavy Byzantine style. His paintings was the starting point of the art as it is now. For example, in his frescoes landscape, architecture, and figures had been reduced almost to the minimum (Janson & Janson, 2004, p.363). Giotto used less gold and sparkling elements. Besides, his frescoes make spectators feel closer to the event depicted. This is achieved by placing the main scene at the foreground, at the lower part of the panting. Giotto’s space on the pictures is limited, yet it is more persuasive.
Both Emperor Frederic II and Francis of Assisi are one of the most important figures of the Middle Ages. Frederic II was one of the most influential rulers of the Holy Roman Empire during the period of the Middle Ages. His political and cultural aims reached not only Italy but Germany as well. He was one of the cleverest men of his time as well. He was called stupor mundi by one of the writers. Frederic II was rich intelligent and powerful. On the contrast Francis of Assisi was rich by his origin (he was the son of a merchant) but poor in his adult life because he choose the spiritual way of development and devoted his life to the church. But both persons have lots in common. They were scientists and writers. Frederic is the author of the first book in falconry. On the other hand, Francis wrote several religious works. Their contribution to society is important. Frederic II founded schools and universities, conducted law reforms. Francis of Assisi founded the Franciscan Order, which is operating nowadays.
