Where was the concert given - Carnegie Hall in New York City
1. The performance given by Benny Goodman and his orchestra is considered as most significant performance in the Jazz music history. Benny Goodman performed extraordinary and unmatchable jazz music in the concert. In the same Carnegie hall ten years back jazz music was introduced by Whiteman but Benny Goodman has given a new height to jazz music in this hall. Benny Goodman has been asked to perform his favorite numbers in the concert like the way he was doing at other places and he did the same in Carnegie Hall and made the crowd amative. Benny Goodman along with his orchestra played big numbers of Edger Sampson, Fletcher Henderson, and Jimmy Mundy like “life goes to a party,” “One O’clock” and “Blue Skies”. During first part of the concert, Goodman played songs of other jazz artists and given them a tribute. Goodman covered numbers from past twenty years of Jazz. Goodman played sensation rag, probably, Stacy, Kurpa and Benny. Goodman orchestra starts the concert with Krupa number “Don’t be that way” and went on with other amazing numbers like “sing, sing, sing” “The Liltin”. In jazz history the album of this concert is among bestselling albums.
2. The hall was full; all 2760 seats were sold at the rate of $ 2.75. During those days this much cost of ticket was considered as high. Goodman was also ready to set the stage on fire along with his best musicians Teddy Wilson, Harry James, Gene Krupa, Jesse Stacy, Ziggy Elman and Lionel Hampton. Goodman also highlighted members from other guest group Ellington and Basie. At the beginning of the concert the environment was quite and audience were calm. The audience started gearing up when first number started and went on went. The concert took place in the year 1938 hence only central mike was available at the stage. Decoration was also very simple yet sober.
3. Audience and their behavior is one of the most important factors for the success of this kind of music and shows. During the show, audience behavior encourages and inspires the performer to maintain the rhythm and also it makes the environment where everybody forgets his or her stress starts enjoying. Dancing is a good gesture to show the enthusiasm of the audience and further it inspires the performer to perform better. When people start dancing on any number of the performer, it helps the performer in boosting up and gives him the reason to perform in the best possible manner. Some people also use drugs and drink alcohol in such shows and enjoy but this is not good for such shows as it prevents the audiences to be in normal stage and further it can cause disturbance to others, who do not like taking or using such substances. There are several instances where many bad incidents occurred due to the use of alcohol and drugs in music concerts.
4. My reaction towards this show was full with fervor and I enjoyed the show in the best possible way. While watching the show, my absolute concentration was on the performer and the excellent numbers presented by him. I was enthralled by the music presented by Goodman. While watching the album I felt that I am present in the real show.
