There is a need to create the position of a Clinical Applications Specialist within the hospital. This need comes with the increasing incorporation of information systems in clinical settings. Therefore, the Applications specialist will focus on training employees on how to handle new and emerging health systems. The position is a full time entry level role. The specialist will work with physicians and the nursing staff to offer guidance, support, and training on system-focused medical procedures within the organization. The ideal candidate should have the ability to work overtime, if need be, and possess a proven record as a pioneer in the position.
Particularly, the incumbent will encounter the following responsibilities. First, they will offer on-job assistance to nursing staff and physicians through the evaluation of information systems. Second, they will assist the administration in choosing and implementing various technologies such as EMRs. Third, they will take charge of the necessary system maintenance activities before and after shifts. Fourth, they will train and educate personnel on the importance of various technological applications in the clinical setting. Furthermore, they have a vital role in contributing to the QI process through appropriate recommendations on product acquisition and modifications. Finally, they will create and maintain a knowledge-based database outlining essential developments in the position as the first of its kind.
This position requires that the candidate possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Information Systems or any related field. The HR department targets applicants will at least one to two years’ worth of experience in a busy clinical setting. The incumbent should be adept in the use of various software applications and hardware appliances applicable to the hospital environment. Finally, the individual should have attention to detail and a self-motivation to career growth and development within the hospital’s organizational objectives.
